Hi all
Every time i let the dog out for a wee as soon as he steps outside he does it and although he is outside it is right by the back door so although i rinse it off as soon as he has done it we still get the smell now and again plus as we go in and out we will be walking it into the house without even thinking about it .Is there any house old remedy that anyone knows of that i can put down to make him go in the garden that bit further as after he has done it he will have a wander round before he comes back in.I was thinking it maybe a territorial thing but he is only five months what do you think?

Do what I do - even though it looks daft !. Go out with him and run around the garden excitidly !. Puppy will follow straight away and stop by you (works with my almost 6 month old pup ).

The smell is quite possibly whats doing it. Your puppy is going there because "I always go there!" You need to really get rid of all trace of the smell, you can get a spray from a pet shop for this, then encourage him to go where you want him to go. Eventually the new place will become THE place.

To encourage him to go elsewhere I would actually carry him well past the step and to the area you would like him to go. Sounds like he's got the idea that once out it's okay, so you need to transfer to another area and the only way to do that without going over where he's already 'hooked' is to carry him (if he's not too big).

It might not stop your pup from weeing there but we use Jeyes fluid and it gets rid of the smell really well.
