My litter is now 7 weeks old and all has gone well until now.
Yesterday I took them for their chip and vet check noproblem.
To-day 2 of the puppies have been ( best way I can describe) is moaning when resting.
If you take them out of the run on their own they seem not the most boisterous but soon find their feet. As soon as they are laying down, one in particular is really moaning.
I have taken both of them to the vet who found nothing wrong. I have just noticed that one of them has tried to wee but nothing coming out.
Anyone have any experience of this sort of thing? as despite vet saying Ok, I cannot help worrying.

I also had a problem with a puppy being unable to wee. He had an infection which cleared up after ABs. No moaning though. He will need to see the vet ASAP just in case he has a blockage.

They went yesterday and again to-day. 2 pups. Have given shot of metacam and antibiotics to the 2 of them. They seem a bit more settled at the moment. These puppies are bright as buttons when out of the pen on their own.

Does anyone know about UTI. The 2 pups are now on antibiotics but I cans see that they are persisitently crouching to wee but producing very little or nothing. What causes this in a young puppy?

Urinary Tract INFECTION.  Somehow they have picked up something??   I'd suggest it could be strange for more than one to be so affected, and it might be worth having your vet look for something else?  I'm querying this because I don't KNOW!

I bought in a puppy at 8 weeks, and she was peeing for England, sometimes producing a flow and sometimes now.   Just uncomfortable.   By the end of the week, knowing this was far from normal, I took her to my vet with some urine and it showed UTI and she was put on antibiotics but over the weekend showed no significant improvement so back we went and at that point my then vet started talking about bladder stones!!!   Hum.   I bought her home, phoned her breeder to tell her I was bringing her back.  I'd just gone through over a year seeing the last two of my bloodline through their cancers and the last thing I needed was more anxiety, and cost!   Suffice to say I'd hoped her breeder would sort it out and let me have her back - she didn't and chucked me a cheque for a full refund.  That wasn't what I wanted but ..............  She later told me she'd taken her and the other pups who hadn't gone home yet, to her vet and they were 'all the same'.   What that meant I never understood.  But there was something not right about that puppy - she went from me to breeder to another home, to breeder and then to another home (KCSB Records showed the transfers!) before she dropped out of sight.  I hope she's still okay - broke my heart to have to take her back.

Sometimes it takes another antibiotic to cure a UTI which hopefully will be all it takes to get your pups right.

It could be worth asking the vet to check, not necessarily for actual stones, but for the crystals preceding the formation of stones, which can happen if the urine is alkaline and/or certain bacteria are present.  The crystals irritate the lining of the bladder and the urethra, which might be the cause of the moaning the puppies are making.

I currently have a dog - adult, not pup, though - who has struvite crystals:  was frequently straining to pass nothing, and showing other signs of discomfort. Antibiotics gave only temporary partial relief, further investigation showed the crystals, and appropriate treatment was started immediately.

I meant to say that I suspect he may have had the crystals (at a low level) for quite some time, possibly from around 18 months old, as this was his fourth UTI in just over 2 years, and his second within 6 months. Looking back with the benefit of hindsight there may have been some symptoms of low-level discomfort which were attributed to juvenile behaviour traits.

Thought I would let you know that 2 days on the pups are completely back to normal.
Still continuing with the antibiotics as obviously need to finish the course but no more moaning. They must have been in so much pain.
