Can anybody tell me the correct Halti size to buy for my five month old male Border Collie?

Only way to get right size is to try it on - bought one recently for my Rough Collie bitch, as she had a neck injury - and the Westie one was the best fit .......... she's on the small side, but not THAT small. To get one to fit him now, it is unlikely to fit him when adult.

Most decent pet shops will let you take the dog in and try it on, or exchange it if it's not the right size.

Only suggestion would be to go down at least one size on what they recommend for an adult Border Collie, but I'd suspect at 28lbs you'd need to go down more. My girl that I bought the Halti for in the Westie size weighs in at 38lbs, and is a bit shorter-headed than your average Rough, but it's all to do with the head length as well as width.

Don't you have a 'Pets at Home' type pet superstore locally, they're normally fairly reliable for Haltis and the like?

:D just realised I read your location as the East Midlands, not the Middle East - probably not too many 'Pets at Home' stores close to you, then :)

Border collies come in different sizes! My Sherrie weighs in at 15 kg, so she's not as large as some, and her halti is a size 1, but a male BC might be bigger and need a size 2. Incidentally, both my Australian Shepherd boys have had size 2 Haltis.

I would recomedn a Canac gentle leader, as they come in 3 sizes, and the Medium will fit a collie fine. The design is simpler and in my opinion better than a Halti. The nose loop has a slide underneath that clips shut at the correct fit, and the webbing is softer.

Put Canac Gentle Leader in a search engine like Google, and you should find sites that do mail order!
