Started a new thread as i have a new worry....

So pups were born on thursday by C section. Mum is doing well and they are latched on and suckling most of the time. Mum is eating well again.
Weighed them yesterday and just re weighed today. All have lost between 20 - 45 grams. I know weight loss is usual and they should pick it back up but do i give them a top up today to help them along or do i wait and see if mums milk comes in.

I have royal canin baby milk.

Thanks

I would wait another 24 hours and weigh them again, if they are warm with round tummies and quiet then they should be doing fine, the more they nurse the more milk will come and if you supplement then they won't suckle as much, I think that artificial milk takes longer to digest than bitches milk which also might not help them sucking.

Agree keep plugging them in every so often if they have been off Mum for half hour, the extra nursing will bring the milk in and pups will start to regain/gain.

I'd only intervene if a pup wasn't able to suckle well, by making sure to wake it often and ensure it didn't get knocked off.

A normal pup should have enough reserves, to keep it nursing and the energy from the colostrum, and what it gets from the bitch..

Not uncommon after a caesarean to lose weight up to about day 4/5, as long as they're suckling and content I wouldn't worry, only supplement if they're struggling to suckle.
