Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch weeing lots after puppies

My girl had a litter a week ago (csection) and she is weeing lots and lots, including on the carpet, they aren't massive wees like she's been holding it for ages.
She's happy to leave pups to go in the garden etc so I don't think it's a case of not wanting to leave the pups.

She didn't do this after her last litter, she's at the vets for a check up in he morning but just wondered if others have experienced this?

Not had it personally, but agree with you that a vet visit is right.  Maybe see if you can get a wee sample to take.

Thanks. The check up is post op after her section so I will definitely mention it to them. I did think cystitis at first but as she's on antibiotics anyway I'm not sure how likely that is.

Some antibiotics don't hit UTIs.    But if you can, take some of her urine (fresh) in with you when you do see the vet.  I can't say I've had this with any of our bitches, C.Sectioned or not.

Thanks, she was at the vets yesterday, they've continued her antibiotics for a week in case of uti, and if it continues after the course then I'll have to take a sample in.

similar symptoms to uti  can happen due to irritation to the bladder or stress. I would guess this could count as either. if that's the case its not bacterial so antibiotics wouldn't help. sample and vet would be best as suggested

Again it may well be a case of the antibiotics being used are not appropriate for her IF this is a UTI.   I've had to have antibiotics switched when the one being used didn't clear the infection my bitch had.   To confirm, or rule out UTI would be the best option imo.

I don't wish to raise an alarm but there is a very small chance the c-section might have damaged the nerve to the bladder, I know it can happen in spaying and it would seem possible that it could happen in a section too, especially if it's small amounts of wee, don't panic though it's probably not that.

My vet continued the course as it's suitable to treat a UTI (synulox). Of course if it isn't resolved in a week then I will take a sample and we will go from there.

Thanks MP this did cross my mind (she was spayed at the same time) hopefully it's just a uti or irritation from the stress of the section and will pass!

One of my bitches had a weak bladder when pregnant and for quite a few weeks after delivery. I was literally following her round with a mop !!
Took her to the vets, they tested her urine and also sent a sample to the lab for testing, but all came back normal. She had a litter of 9 large puppies and the vet thought that they were pressing on the bladder.
As she gradually got fitter after the birth and the puppies were weaned, things started to improve. I had to get her out quickly first thing in the morning, it was like she couldn't hold on.  But eventually that too got better, and not a case of me diving down stairs and unlocking the door before a puddle appeared.

Thankyou! She did have 9 large pups too so hopefully when pups start to wean and she can get out more and fitter she will be the same as your girl!
