A friend is trying to mate her bitch and the dog is struggling to get his side of it sorted!  They could really do with someone who knows how to help.  They are in Rugby area and the bitch is ready now (according to bloods) so they have very little time to get sorted.  Does anyone have any contacts please?

How about contacting her breeder?     Fact is even if the blood tests says yes, she still needs to be saying yes too.  And are they both novice animals because that could make life more difficult.   It's usually best to use an experienced stud dog and he WILL let you know if she's not quite ready.    Some vets will help.

She is ready, blood tests confirm this, plus she is standing happily. This will be bitch's 2nd litter and dog has previously been used too (on a much taller bitch though).  The owner is the breeder.

Sometimes dogs aren't happy mating with the girls they live with. Is there anyway your friend could take her girl to someone else's house and then, after a few hours, turn up there with the dog? Or is it more a physical problem as you mention the size of the previous bitch.

If it's a height problem then standing the bitch on a slope with the dog Below should help?

Might it be worth checking if the bitch has a stricture, this would certainly prevent the dog performing his side of things.

Did the bloods show actual ovulation or was advice based on guesstimate of the rate the average hormone levels rise.

Remember the bitches eggs are not fertiliseable until two days post ovulation, so best mating time is 2-4 days after ovulation, and many experienced males will not mate until then, no matter how eager the bitch.

Bloods showed 40 nmol (that was taken on Monday) so she is probably pretty much over by now but thank you everyone for your suggestions.
