My bitch has now been out of season for about a week now and has had a bath! But my intact male is still paying her attention, it seemed to calm down over the weekend but the last 2/3 days he's been a nightmare following her round and leaning over her, sniffing her neck / back etc.
My girl seems 100% herself and isn't showing any unusual behaviour or changes. The only thing is that she is being treated for a possible nail bed infection with cream.
Not sure whether to be worried or just need to wait for it to play out and him to calm down!
We confined our bitch for a month (four weeks) from first day of the bleeding, then considered her season to be over, but I guess is can differ in different breeds. We thought four weeks was erring on the side of caution.
I agree 4 weeks is probably best to err on side of caution, several of my girls are not mated until around days 18 - 22 so their seasons are probably longer than 21 days.
Infection though can confuse dogs and they think the dog/bitch is in season.
He may just be hoping his luck will change, we have been expecting a bitch to come in for the last 3 months, she was last cycling in January, my stud dog checks her every day with his "what about now" face on!
Depending on what u are using to count dates of season.i use 4 weeks from day one if it's longer than that be aware of pyo particularly closed as its harder to detect if u are concerned get a her checked by the vet
