My girl is on day 60 and for 3 days now she has been very sleepy and nibbling at her food. Today she is refusing to go to the toilet. Is this normal. We are with her 24/7 and vets are on standby. Ive whelped pups before so it's seems different this time. We have everything ready
Do you mean she is refusing to go outside or when she is outside she is not going to the toilet, if it's the former then you will have to take her out even if you have to carry her, she needs to empty herself and it quite often will encourage labour if she has a little walk round the garden, keep an eye on whatever she passes, fluid, mucous etc. Bitches often vary in their whelpings and different breeds seem to have their own characteristics. Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi thank u for the response she finally went out a couple of hours ago and did both motions. She's just been out now and diharea (however u spell it) not sure if that's her emptying herself and getting ready
Yes, that's often a sign that they are nearly ready to whelp so hopefully it won't be long now.
Still no pups. Hopefully won't be long

She lost her mucus plug this morning. Shaking a little and her vulva is very swollen now. Refusing to eat or drink and constantly staying in her bed. Hopefully not much longer now
A long night ahead for you as she will probably decide to whelp in the early hours! Good luck and keep us posted.
Waited all night for babies. Still nothing. Ringing the vets to get their advice. My mum said it's like waiting for a royal baby lol
My dog is now on day 66. We mated her just the once with our male. She had a scan 10 days ago and confirmed a pup maybe 2. The vet couldn't see proper as she wouldn't keep still so maybe more pups. She has had all the signs of labour apart from panting. The mucus plug came yesterday. I've tried to do her temp but it disturbed her too much so left it. She's been digging at her bed, restless, sleepy etc but no imminent sign of babies. Her vulva is quite swollen now. Spoke to the vet this morning and was advised to ring back in 2 days if no pups. I've spent the 8 days by her side now and as you can imagine I'm very anxious now. I've whelped pups many of times but never been late like this. Any advice please would be helpful. Thank u guys

Is there any chance of your vet doing a reverse progesterone test, (progesterone drops to under 2 when pups ready to be born) as I would not be happy waiting past tomorrow, this could be uterine inertia, though I have had first stage labour (digging panting etc) last 36 hours.

I'm worried about inertia too. No way would I leave a bitch of mine until day 68, I'd be having a seizure. Bear in mind that most vets have never bred a litter and think of your bitch.
Took her to the vets today and the pups have died. We're all devastated. I am now changing my vets. I wanted them to check her over on day 66 but they wouldn't have it. Skye is now resting and on anti biotics because her cervix is open.

So sorry to read this - after all the waiting to have this - terrible and so unnecessary had the vet acted. I never leave mine to go over more than 2 days from the first mating. If there are only a couple of puppies they can 'sit', growing bigger by the hour almost. Mine would have examined my bitch, and given a shot to get things moving. If that didn't produce the goods, then go in and do a C.Section. Mine do tend to go into secondary inertia however, so I don't hang around. With my breed it's 'ouch mum' at the first feeling of discomfort. 'You put them in here, now you get them out'!!
Way too many vets have never done a whelping even. All theory and not always any practice. I'm afraid I'd be moving on from this vet.
And I hope your bitch will be okay because right now her system is geared to provide for puppies so you will have to cut back on food intake, at lease and keep a close eye on her teats.
I'm assuming she has had a shot to clear her out
I am so sorry for your sad outcome, I hope your bitch recovers well and it doesn't affect her future breeding life.

This is so sad, and where you need to insist on intervention based on whelping timing in your breed.
The most I have had a bitch go past a 1st mating is 4 days, but palpation and scan showed her not as far on knew she had been mated early).
Normally I expect pups to be born between days 61 and 64 (biggest range I have had was day 58 - 67.
I'm so sorry for your loss x
My dog is 60 days pregnant has for 3 days she has been having panting moments but they only last a hour then stop till the next day and start again is this normal

Yes, they are hot and uncomfortable. First stage labour is different. THERE is a definite look in the eyes, sort of introverted/preoccupied.

Oh this is just so sad. I feel so very sorry for you. What a terrible disappointment.
