My pup is 4 months old, took her for her injections on the 27/7/16 and she is due for her final dose on the 27/8/16. I wished to take her for the injections tomorrow the 24th August so rang the vet to make an appointment and was told by the receptionist that I could not have her done until the due date, I said that it is inconvenient for me to come on the 27th and that was realistically only 48 hours before, but no insisted that it could be done 24 hrs prior only, and this was stipulated by the makers of the vaccine. Has any one else had this problem. I have bred dogs for over 40 years and never had this problem before with any dog I have injected, and never stuck to the precise day, normally they would put down on the card 2weeks or 4 weeks never a date.

Rubbish it won't make any difference most of the reason they do twice is to try and make sure at least one vaccination gives community.o often early vaccines are blocked by mother's immunity. Do.they really think vaccines know dates !
- By mally [gb] Date 23.08.16 17:18 UTC
I AGREE WITH YOU. THE THING IS THE MOTHER HAS NOT BEEN INJECTED HERSELF FOR A FEW YEARS.

The second injection usually needs to be given between 14 and 28 days after the first. However different brands have a different protocol; if the Nobivac Lepto 4 was used, then the second injection must be no sooner than 28 days after the first. Having checked the calendar, giving the on the 24th should be fine.

That won't matter.mum will have natural immunity from day to day living.i know many including mine who dint get vaccines and in titre have immunity.also people now are sometimes vaccinating only onxe at 16weeks and then titre testing. Most times immunity is high

Thank you for that info, so I will make an appointment tomorrow the 24th August, the nobivac L4 was used on the 27th July and as you say after checking the calendar the 24th Aug is the 28th day. Mally

You're telling me that you were told to do this 3 days earlier than the 'due date' would make a difference?    I'd be more questioning why the month gap between the two sets - I don't remember mine being given their shots here in the UK at more than 2 weeks apart.   Starting at 10 weeks and then 12 weeks?    And mine are now on 3-yearly boosters apart from the one for Lepto which apparently dips over 12 months and needs to be given annually.    I have never boostered beyond around 7 years of age either, unless perhaps, there's a local outbreak of Parvo or Lepto.

I'd want to hear what you were told by reception, FROM THE VET.    And I also don't see the relevance of what mum has or hasn't had re this 4 month old puppy.   Any natural immunity from her (via the colostrum) would start dropping by around 5 weeks until by 8 weeks, it's felt safe to externally vaccinate, with it taking.

The protocol for the L4 vaccine is two injections 4 weeks apart. It's the L2 that is 2 - 4 weeks apart.

That probably explains why my understanding was as said - mine didn't have L4 as puppies.   And even now don't.

Hi hoping someone could give me a little advice
I'm new to the site so not sure if I'm posting in the right place or not! My puppy is 9 weeks old bred from my bitch and dog I took her to the vet to day for her first vaccination and within a hour or so she's really hot and shivering is this normal? Have a feeling I may be over reacting
Has anyone els had this problem?

If she was mine, I'd be giving the vet a buzz to ask for advice

Call your vet ASAP!! Could be a reaction to the injection.
- By Abbyparker12 [gb] Date 12.09.16 19:35 UTC
That's what I'm going to do now thanks guys

Make sure they report it as an adverse reaction, personally I'd not have the second injection, and do a vaccicheck titre test to see if the first ones have taken if so then the second won't be needed.

If no immune response has occurred then I would wait until she is 12 - 16 weeks before vaccinating again, and take extra care while socialising in the meantime to avoid high dog  traffic dog areas, and check if there have ben any outbreaks locally of the canine diseases.

The reason two injections of the viral diseases are given is they know it is highly likely the first one may not take.

Agree with brainless.also of vet is reluctant to do a report on the reaction u can do it your self via defra. Do hope your pup recovers ok. Just to add you arnt over reacting at all
- By Ells-Bells [gb] Date 13.09.16 04:57 UTC
How is your pup now?  Did she have the L4 vaccine?
- By furriefriends Date 13.09.16 07:49 UTC
ells-bells , you are right L4 is the one that causing more problems than any other atm and is often added in sometimes without owner realising or knowing of the risks
- By Brainless [gb] Date 13.09.16 08:45 UTC
Even the old Lepto 2 was always  known as the vaccine  most likely  to cause adverse reactions

Very true I wouldn't use either

Hi guys thanks for your help I called the out of hours vet last nigh and she was seen he said it was all normal she had a fever and a temp but it wasn't out of ordinary she had nobivac bhpl she's up and playing so glad she's ok All my other dogs never had a problem being vaccinated but she was my worry
- By furriefriends Date 13.09.16 13:55 UTC
So pleased she is OK.i do wish vets wouldn't accept that this is normal .a vaccine reaction  form should still be completed as the more data gathered the more info is available for analysis.many dogs are not as lucky as yours and vets  start off saying oh it's all ok. If u are unsure  about next year I would titre test to get an idea of immunity.unless a non responder chances are your pup will be immune. I would also seriously consider not having lepto again anyway  if you decided to booster.lepto won't show on titres

Definitely either get your vet to report the incident or do it yourself, you will then have covered yourself if there are any further problems.
A lot of these drugs (vaccines, fleA/tick treatments/wormers) are only truly tested once in general release.

Glad she's feeling better >
