Hi i have a small/medium breed dog that was mated 10th june 2016 she is now on day 65 with no signs of any puppies she is still eating and pooping fine she is panting and digs a few times in a day but nothing major she is still eating food and has a clear discharge that only apears once she has had a wee..this is the first time she has had a litter and a first for me too any advice and help would be appreciated please dont jump on me with nasty comments i have been searching since before i mated her to try and get clued up thanks in advance

Do you know when she ovulated? What day was she on when you mated her and was she only mated the once? I am assuming it was only once but thought I might as well ask to be sure. She may not have ovulated when you mated her and could have done so a couple of days later.
Have you had her scanned? Do you know how many she is carrying? If she only has one or two in there, there might not be enough of a hormonal change to induce labour in which case she may be requiring a c-section.
Are you taking her temperature? Has she had a significant drop yet? If she has, then labour has started, if not then she might not be ready yet.
The clear discharge is an indicator that she should be going pretty soon but the more she goes over the 63 days - the more I'd be inclined to talk to a vet and get advice.

She was mated twice once on the 10th and then again on the 12th..i havent checked her temp as she gets very distressed if i try..i am not sure on when she ovulated and have not had her scanned as didnt want to put her under the stress...shes a big baby when it comes to the vets..i can still feel her babies moving they are very active... i was going to wait until monday and if she wasnt showing any signs take her first thing monday morning..she is happy in herself isnt showing any signs or distress and genuinly seems fine..i would have had her at the vets if i thought for one second she wasnt doing good..thanms for replying

My small/medium breed had her pups on day 65/63. Wasn't there a thread recently about the second mating usually being the ONE ? Or did I dream it.
1st flushes out the lad so to speak and the second you get all the new active semen.
Good Luck.

So do you think if nothing by monday then to go and see a vet then ?

The problem is the male is a stud dog so the lady who owns him has many different bitches with him

Yes, better to be safe than sorry

Okay thank you fingers crossed she has them naturally before then amd is okay
She sounds as if she is fine so try not to be too anxious, have you someone with whelping experience to help you, it's a great comfort during the birth. If the mucous is beginning to come away then she should start giving birth fairly soon, fingers crossed you have some lovely puppies with no problems but if in doubt have her vet checked.

I used to give it 2 days over, from the first mating, provided I saw nothing to worry me beforehand, and then get my vet involved. I never set much score re temperature taking, but as a general rule, although it fluctuates during the final week, once it goes down and stays down you can expect the whelping to begin within 48 hours, if not sooner. Don't leave her alone now - much as bitches often tend to whelp during the small hours! Hopefully she's already sleeping in her whelping quarters, with you in there with her overnight so you can see when she starts. When she does, don't leave her struggling, having strong contractions/pushing hard, for much over one hour without seeing a puppy delivered - each delivery. There's no point letting her become exhausted if she's going to need a C.Section. I always alerted my vet when mine started, in case I did need them.
I'd not leave this much over 2 days from 63 days, from the first mating - the puppies will be continuing to grow, making a natural delivery perhaps more difficult!
Good luck - the waiting is the worst part!!! But she needs you calm and not stressed, if possible.

This morning when i have let her out she has diarrhoea is this normal ??? Dhe has very sold poo before nothing like this !!
Very normal just before whelping .... Good luck.

I think you are very close now as loose poo is her system clearing out and getting ready. Make sure you go out with her EVERY time she poos as she will confuse labour with needing to toilet. There is a chance of her pushing out a whelp out there. Take a towel with you and let the process happen - don't panic and Good luck!
Please come back and let us know the outcome - we get sad when we never find out what happened :)

I haven't seen the thread (but wouldn't say that you dreamed it.)

But, in my experience I wouldn't agree. Most of my whelpings have been to the first mating. May just be because the stud dog got it spot on.

Still.no.sign of puppies yet she is sleeping although earlier today she was out having a wee and there was stringy discharge she hasnt pooped again and she still hasnt eaten although will eat a treat if i give her one..she still randomly digs and then.goes back to sleep...this waiting game is awful
I predict puppies by the morning!! Good luck with the whelping, keep us up to date.

Absoutly nothing she is sleeping !!

I have had first stage go on for 36 hours and then whelping go very quickly.
Also day 10 is pretty early and could have been as early as the LH surge, so two days before Ovualtion, with 4 days before conception.
Most bitches whelp +/- a day 63 days from ovulation.

Yes - definitely time to get the vet involved I'd suggest. I have to say just before whelping, my puppies always went 'quiet' (which worried me to death the first time!!), obviously all lining up to be born.

I agree with Lexy. Wouldn't be waiting a day longer with any of my girls.

I have had two litters go 4 days over 1st mating when they were mated early for mine and then mated several times, but never went over 63 to last mating.

Any news?

Puppy number 5 just came !!! Im so in love ❤
Brilliant news, give those puppies a cuddle from me, I miss not breeding, enjoy your babies
> I miss not breeding, enjoy your babies
In many ways, so do I but I don't miss the 'worry'

I would say that having a new generation every now and then does ease the pain of losing the oldies!

It's one of the reasons I chose to breed, so I would always have something of my dogs that have gone to the Rainbow bridge.
