Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Breeding! Maiden stud dog and maiden bitch successful tie!!
- By Mac83ftm [gb] Date 28.07.16 15:41 UTC Edited 29.07.16 07:20 UTC
Hi, im an owner of 2 working gundog breed dogs. one of whom is a 2 year old intact male with a very good pedigree. last week he mated with a maiden bitch ( pedigree ) both i and the owner of the bitch knew that things might not go as planned as this was new to both dog and bitch, over 3 nights he chased her, sniffed her butt, licking her etc. on the 3rd night we finally achieved a tie lasting 14 minutes. nothing about the mating was forced, we just let the dogs do what they wanted. the only time we were hands on was when the tie happend, both holding the dogs steady. I just want to know the chances of pregnancy.

cheers

Pretty good I'd say, but I'd want another mating or two.

we tried that 2 days after but the bitch did not seem that keen, she did stand for him but kept putting her backside on the floor, the owner of the bitch thinks that she was over and the time had passed.

for me as the stud owner im pleased that he finally did it, but yes the 2 days prior to the tie he just didnt mount her :-( will let you know the outcome

Well as the advice by those who don't blood tests is to mate until the bitch stops standing sounds like your were spot on.

I have always relied on my own stud dog to get it spot on.  It just sounds to me that you will be having puppies.

I had a bitch who had just the one mating and had a large litter.  Soooo,,,   Never say Never.

Length of tie or indeed no tie doesn't mean that they will or wont have pups...my recent litter had a tie of no more than 5 mins & I had 5 pups.... I also had a slip mating from a different bitch 12 years ago & had 5 pups... both were only the single mating
