Topic Dog Boards / Health / Are human chemists able to take prescirptions from the vet?
- By JoBoxer [gb] Date 24.07.16 14:59 UTC
My dog is on Desmopressin for diabetes insipidus and a tiny bottle of desmopressin from the vet costs £75. Vet is happy to give me a prescription so that I can try and save some money but as it's a human medicication, the online pet chemists do not list it. Am I able to get the prescription filled from a human chemist with a prescription from the vet does anyone know?

Thanks for any advice,

Jo

Can't see why not, Vets are licensed to treat & prescribe for humans, doctors are not licensed to treat/prescribe for animals.

My local village chemist sells animal medications that are POM & non POM

Yup, I've had a vet give me a prescription to take to the chemist.  I had no problems at all.

Thanks Tommee. I'm a 'know it all' but I never knew that!
