Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Confusing heat timing and being tied
- By Tola [gb] Date 21.07.16 13:41 UTC
Hi i have a bit of a problem i first notice that my bitch was in heat on 5/7 and I suspected that she was in heat before  that as shes been cleaning herself alot before that and the 5th was the first time I noticed actual bleeding
when it came to the  13/7  tola started to show sings of being in the right time for a male so I took her up to see the stud she has gotten tied for 30+mins and we went up once again on 16/7 (tied for 15+mins)
then It got me to thinking that it was only like 8days since I first found out she's in heat and I'm worried that she could have been caught too early on and she was definitely showing sings of her being in the right time and she get the stud on her staraight up no problem...
Would this be too early or is it possible that she Managed to hide her bleeding before I found out that she was in heat or what I'm just confused I know it's silly but I just want to be sure as by looks of things her teets are going harder and more pink and she's kinda getting the boobs like she did last time she was pregnant
Ps when is the best time for a scan?

You may have missed the early days, she may be an early ovulater, or she may have been mated a bit early, only time will tell, but generally bitches will not stand before the LH surge (two days before ovulation) more often not until ovulation, and in fact can't conceive until about two days after that.

Most experienced males will not waste their time on a bitch that isn't ready, and a virile males sperm can live for a week or more, and stay in good condition for at least 4 days.  this is why bitches conception rate is around 90% as there is a good amount of wiggle room.

It's unusual for a bitch to allow a tie if she isn't ready, and to get two such good ties with time in between, you're very likely to have a pregnancy.

When planning to mate a bitch, it's best to check her every day with white tissue paper to see exactly when the season starts. It can easily be several days before there is enough blood to be noticeable.

Scanning is best done at least 28 days after mating (if it is an experienced scanner), with vets it is often better to wait until 30 days +.

Hi that's what I thought about the tie that's she wouldn't let him on but was a bit confused
I have been checking her but she's be cleaning herself alot so there was no sings until I managed to catch her outside just after she peed so it was visible then hehe
some hassle I had to go with her just to see if she's in season haha
I'm hoping for her to have a litter then she's most likely getting everything cut out x
