Hi I have a dog who's canine is not turning out as much as it should and is starting to make the mouth sore. I was told at ring craft that you can get bands that help to encourage the teeth to move. Does anyone experience of this? Any good ? Where to get them etc ? Tia

If the mouth is sore I would seriously consider a chat with your vet.  I am sure that he will have a suggestion to help.  He can only advise if he examines your dog. (Not sure if they fit braces for dogs.) 

I think it's worth having the vet advise first.

I have heard of a well known stud Golden Retriever whose bite was incorrect and he was fitted with a brace to correct this. Needless to say, many unsuspecting puppy purchasers, descended from this boy, discover their show prospect is no longer that because the bite has gone and this can be in the second or third generation. I think it is a disgusting deception and should only be done for health reasons. I wore a brace as a child and it was damn painful.

So do I!!  It's one thing to correct a bite if the owner feels it's necessary for cosmatic reasons (which I don't understand!!), or perhaps for medical need,  but if the owner then goes on to allow the dog to be used at stud, or bred from if a bitch, this fault WILL be passed on to perhaps unsuspecting other breeders and into their bloodlines.   I have to say WHY BOTHER.   If the dog has a bite fault, it has a bite fault but if the tooth that's out of line is causing a problem to the mouth, then frankly rather than use banding, I'd have it extracted.

Just to clarify.  My suggestion to see a vet is entirely due to the OP saying that it is making the dogs' mouth sore. 

My mention of a brace was meant in jest.  (Hence the smilies.)

I have genuinely never heard of braces for canines.

Google mentions them but I agree jeansw if the dog has problems and a sore.mouth vet should be first port of call and maybe a dental referral not something that I would have thought should be done  without proper professional advise. Guessing but maybe someone  at ring craft had seen this done by a vet for good reasons and not suggesting that the op  should do it themselves

Using bands on the teeth is quite common in some breeds and I've seen them used in Bull Terriers as the head shape can mean that the teeth turn in. I've seen the bands sold on the trade stands at Champ shows.  At the end of the day there are lots of practices within some breeds that some of us wouldn't agree with, but then that's why we don't have them.
