I wonder if anyone can help me, I am trying to find out if I put my solid blue bitch, her pedigree is blue for a long way back, to a blue pied or a solid white will I get a mixed litter or will they all be pied? I've searched and searched and can not seem to find anything on the colour genetics of this breed. When I was researching Labradors I found it really very easy to gather all the information I needed! I am not looking to breed until next year giving me chance to get myself clued up and make the right decision on whether to change from a soild blue next time!
Also are white SBTs prone to deafness as with white boxers?
Any help and or links would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

The genetics of the blue Stafford are the same as for the Great Dane and Greyhound.  The colour appears as solid blue, blue brindle or blue fawn which is the same as a black masked fawn except the mask is blue instead of black.  If you want blue, there are some very important aspects to consider in a breeding program.  The selection of the dogs for mating has to be correct.  As well as quality of conformation, the colouring also needs to be considered.  As in any breeding, including brindle to brindle, an incorrect selection of parents may result in pups with weak pigment and light eyes.  As the eye colour of blues is affected by the dilution gene, the parents eyes should be as dark as possible.  Always include a well pigmented black dog in your breeding program to keep dilution to a minimum.  This will also assist in the colour of the nose.  In a blue Stafford the nose is a diluted black giving a slate appearance which can vary in colour from grey to black.  With the correct breeding program and careful selection, it is possible to produce quality blue Staffords with black noses, medium to dark brown eyes and black toenails.  Some of the current blues have darker pigment than some of the brindles and fawns seen in the showring.

I found the above a very informative paragraph from here http://www.freewebs.com/pdrock/historyoftheblue.htm

Your dealing with two very different genetic issues. One is color the other pattern, or how white is inherited to give you pied.

There are various genes that cause white in dogs, some of these genes have been identified some I assume not.

So all I can say is pups would be Blue,  but you'll need to do some research on inheritance of white patterns in dogs.

Yes sadly as with most breeds deafness is an issue in white/white headed dogs.

I have met several deaf white staffs, and training has been very challenging.

Here is a page on white spotting in dogs

Don't forget a studs colour shouldn't be the deciding factor, health and finding a stud who is strong where your girl is weaker are more important.
