The BOTB says 7 weeks is the best time if pups are fully weaned. I've checked with the KC whilst they recommend 8 weeks they say 7 is ok if fully vet checked? What views does everyone have?

We kept our puppies until they were 10 weeks unless we knew the people well, and they were experienced in which case they'd go by around 8 weeks, if ready.   The norm, and it's illegal in some countries to sell before, is 8 weeks which I believe is plenty early.   Sometimes with a big litter, which is doing well, it's a good idea to get puppies out by 8 weeks as they can benefit from more one on one attention.   So a lot depends on the situation with each litter.   Some need more time than others.

This is for MY main breed.

I've always picked up pups at 8 weeks, large breed and fully ready to go to new homes at that age. However I've noticed this time that some breeders would have started homing at 7 weeks. I've read a few things that it does benefit a puppy going a week earlier, but I should imagine that it is something that would be for some breeds and not others. Toy puppies for instance need more time with the dam to mature enough before going to new homes

Totally breed dependant.

I kept my litter until 8 weeks but they were soooooooo ready to go at 7. In fact the final week was almost a nightmare and I was glad when hubby got the handlers round to allocate pups (they are a working breed).

It is totally breed dependent as many toy breeds need longer with mum and some larger breeds are ready earlier.

Not sure how the current litter will be by 7 weeks but as they were born mid week - we might have them until 8 and a half weeks (would be better as they will need their 8 week worming) or may let them go at 7 and a half....

Ive always picked mine up the weekend before 8 weeks. Usually the Friday before so that i have the weekend to settle and vaccs on the monday.

Depending when my girl has hers, it may be around xmas time by the time they ready to go. Luckily ive been in contact with 6/8 of my buyers for over 2 years or they already have my breed so i know its not a xmas pressie. Id be happy to let those pups go at 8wks even if its before xmas.. The other 2, i shall have to decide on depending what the families plans are for xmas celebrations etc.

mine start leaving at 7 weeks as they need  socialising to be paramount with our breed. So would definetly say more breed dependant regarding leaving for their new homes.

7-8 weeks is fine.  Decided by their availability, my availability and when other people are picking up.  It's hard for them all to go on one day anyway, so over that period of time is fine.

I aim for 8 weeks but let pups go from the weekend after they are 7 weeks, which means most pups are then in their homes by 9 -10 weeks as they rarely all go at the same time, in fact I don't like more than two going any day, and most of my owners have long distances to collect so prefer a weekend pick up with less traffic.

We don't have any choice, here where I am.  We MUST keep our pups until they have completed 10 weeks.  The last two weeks are, for me, a nightmare, as they were ready to go at 8 weeks and desperately need individual attention, more than I can give them.  Enough being a member of a litter, they need to develop and begin their own individual lives.

I am considering leaving the breed club in any case, as I cannot abide the new people in office and cannot agree with their corrupt ways.  If I exit the club. I will give my puppies away at 8 weeks, unless there is some reason why I don't feel this would be a good idea in some cases.

That's what I mean Brainless. As they turn 8 weeks on a wednesday, I shall be letting them go over the following weekend so friday - sunday. I insist new puppy parents take time off work to settle pup in and spend time with it.

Right now I don't think it will be too much of an issue as there are probably only going to be 2 pups leaving us. Might be more as time progresses and their drives become apparent. Those staying on to train will be picked up either the weekend prior (as hubby can make sure they get their 8th week worming) or the following monday and tuesday by their prospective trainers and families.

I usually let my big breed go from 7 weeks depending on the new owners and my hound breed goes at 8 weeks, they don't all go at one time as usually our litters have been summer ones and I will be flexible for peoples holidays, my puppies are happy and confident so they don't seem to have any problems with going either early or later.

Most recent research states that puppy best time for adapting to a new life is seven weeks if fully fit and healthy , as at eight weeks they find it harder to adjust to a new environment unless properly socialised

I have a breed that is not allowed to leave until they are 12 weeks old.
