I have just returned from the vet with a diagnosis of Immune Mediated Haemolitic Anaemia in my 8 year old whippet bitch, there is very little hope for my beloved girl and I will have to make a decision in the next 2 days, I am devastated and awash with tears, the vet was very business like and says that her red blood cells are dropping fast and a blood transfusion may be required tomorrow but it will probably not save her. I know you will all have been in the same position so you will understand my pain

My heart goes out too you. It's never an easy decision. ..

So sorry, you will make the kindest decision for your girl, it always breaks our hearts, but they never leave, living on in the safety of our hearts

So sorry for such a dreadful diagnosis- been through it ourselves. That's when I pretty much decided there probably isn't a God :(
We were given a 50/50 chance . The best chance for a blood transfusion to help is if you can get a sibling to donate. If it's going to work apparently it will make a big difference quickly.
We tried everything we could but were unsuccessful. I have to say it was the hardest thing I've ever been through with a dog- basically waiting to see if the medication would help while she faded slowly. It was heart breaking. I send you my very best wishes at this terrible time.
So very sorry. It's the hardest thing we do for the dogs we love, but she will always shine in your memory.

I'm so sorry. I know how this hurts. Right now my 11-year-old Pekingese is suffering (probably dying) from severe anemia, and I have decided, due to her age and the fact that she is not in pain, to just make her as comfortable as I can until the day comes.... I don't know if it is Immune Mediated Haemolitic Anaemia, that diagnoses was not made as such, but I don't see the point of putting her through all the tests to determine what is wrong (MRI, drawing of spinal fluid, etc, etc), since the vet believes there would, in any case, be basically nothing we could do. He thinks she probably has a tumor somewhere.
Very very sad for you and your little girl.

So heartbreaking, especially when so young. My Elkhound, Heidi, was only 8 when I had to make that terrible decision. You will know what to do however difficult it is. HUGS

Sorry to hear this.

So sorry. So horrible especially when so young

So sorry to hear your news. You have been so supportive over these last few weeks, I hope I can be just as supportive for you now, in your time of need.
I'm sure, as hard as it is, you will make the best decision for your girl.
Thinking of you all ....

I am so sorry to read this. Wishing you peace and courage during this difficult time. Making that decision is never easy but it is also the last and greatest gift we can give.

I'm so sorry. :( I'm sure we all know how hard it is.

I'm probably too late for this now but if not, get yourself onto the "Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia in Dogs (IMHA)" group on FB. Very helpful, a ton of experience, they were a godsend when my Saffi was diagnosed. She was/is a very very mild case but the support and knowledge on there for both mild and severe cases like yours is second to none.
There are also plenty of people posting about their dogs who were at death's door and who are now doing well!

So sorry to read this, my thoughts are with you x
Thank you everybody, she is still with us and I am just waiting on the latest blood result, I hadn't thought of using Facebook but I will do it now, everything I have read and my eyeballs are sore with it, seems very gloomy so it would be nice to see a ray of hope however tiny.

Definitely worth doing, they are so supportive there. There's a UK group too, an offshoot of the above one, just as supportive too.
So sorry to hear about your girl
Google CIMDA too, lots of info on the forum x
