My girl was the other end of the scale, so diagnosed with Cushings. She had to have very frequent blood tests to ensure her medication was spot on.  Her dosage was altered regularly but the medication meant that she had a relatively normal life.

As far as I understood things Cushing's disease results from an excess of adrenal gland hormones. It is a common side-effect of drugs such as corticosteroids, which are often prescribed to treat canine arthritis, allergies and other ailments. (Although this wasn't the case in my girls' case.)  Cushing's disease can also result from a benign tumor on one of the adrenal glands or the pituitary gland.

I am sorry that I haven't had a dog with Addisons, but I'm sure that the opposite is a fact, so not enough adrenal gland hormones?

My brothers mother in laws dog has it, as Jean has said its when the adreanal gland doesn't produced enough hormones. It can be genetic and some breeds and their crosses are more prone to it well as being linked to autoimmune problems but not all cases have known causes aperantly.

He has to have regular injections to keep him in check but stressfull times can still knock him. Ive not seen him in ages but I was told once they got him on the meds and the dose sorted he was fine but before that he was very poorly and came close to having him putdown.
