Not even sure if that's what I mean, BUT, young Floppie Mamma here, who is about 12 days off whelping, seems to be grunting a lot and I fancy I can hear little burps in between.  She seems to be bigger than her last two pregnancies even though a scan showed the same number as before (four) with a vague possibility of five but not definite and I don't remember her being this heavy before either, so I'm thinking that maybe she is so full, with however many she's carrying and that's making her a bit breathy and grunty and the faint burpy sounds are caused from the puppies against her stomach?  I suppose a bit like a human pregnancy? Anyone else experienced this?
Also, I haven't noticed much in the way of movement, unlike last time, again this makes me wonder whether she's having more - I hope it's no more than her usual four - five at the absolute most!!   She's perfectly happy in herself and even had a bit of a tussle with me when I was trying to  remove a mat from under her chin LOL.  I'm sure all is well but wanted to run it by more experienced breeders and see what they thought.  (I have a small/medium Tibetan breed.)

I bathed her tonight to freshen her up a bit because she was rather wet and sticky from the clear non-smelly discharge they have when in whelp but this is heavier than I recall as well.
It's probably absolutely nothing other than a variation on her usual pregnancies but when I was drying her after the bath, during which I had paid particular attention to her sticky back end, she was all wet and sticky again already!! 
All that remains to be seen now is whether she goes her usual 61 days or decides to confuse me over that as well!!  Oh the joys of breeding eh? Sheesh!

That is very interesting. Forgive me, its horse related sorry, I am almost certain my horse has gastric ulcers (acid related) and having missed a few days of his acidease supplement he had terrible hiccups on Thursday (called thumps in horses). Also he can be quite grunty at times in work.

Maybe check with the vet if she can have some gaviscon ?

I think the laboured panting they do when so full of puppies also makes them burp ad they do gulp in quite a bit of air and it's got to go somewhere...

There's no doubt that towards the end of a pregnancy, with the puppies taking up so much room, the availability to eat any significant amount of food is difficult.   I always cut back on bulk, concentrating on the protein content and feeding a number of small meals only.

I'd never bath a pregnant bitch, at the end of her pregnancy especially.   If she needs 'freshening up' it should be enough to give her a gentle sponge down.

Irrelevant as you can have a bitch carrying 7 pups and being very much bigger than a bitch carrying 11 pups.  How much fluids being carried can vary immensely.

One of mine seemed very large and we had loads of fluid and just five pups (1 stillborn), her much smaller Mum had a litter of 9

Thanks for your replies everyone.  Brainless, I know someone who's dog didn't even look pregnant and went on to have SEVEN!!!!  I hope my girl doesn't have a big litter...just four will do nicely! LOL.

LOL, 7's quite small for my breed and I'm very thankful for it, as a first litter!

My other bitch carried 10, didn't look like she had more than 4, was jumping on and off our very high bed, catching bubbles/flies/moths/frisbees and balls right up until the day she popped and there was A LOT of birthing fluid. This girl could barely walk, tried to get on the bed and failed miserably, waddled like a duck and grunted like a pig (was very disgusted with herself). She had the 8 and very little birthing fluid....so apparently size (really) doesn't matter ;)

My girl has only ever had four so I'm hoping for the same again.  I know there are definitely four in there but I am very aware that her rib cage seems to be curved out a bit more than usual so lordy knows what she has hidden up her jumper!!

I'm not sure if Gaviscon is safe for dogs but if she does have reflux, she'll most likely be given either antepsin or ranitidine (zantac), both of which are commonly used in dogs for this sort of problem.

What about gripe water? It's only dill seeds, sugar and water right?

Gripe water used to contain alcohol many years ago. Don't know if it still does, it's been a while!

No alcohol..the EU boffs put a stop to that - in fact I think the sugar is reduced now too

She doesn't seem unduly worried by it so I think I'll run it by my vet tomorrow.  I think she'll be glad to have these babies out of her, she seems to be very "heavy in the way she walks about a lot of the time...and I suppose she is with only 9 days to go but she wasn't like this before.
Ah well, this is the last litter and no more seasons to contend with.  I daresay she'll feel very happy about that, bless her xxx
