Topic Dog Boards / Health / Fleas again!

Hi I  have recently moved overseas and it is hot here.  The vet recommended I give Bravecto as it is supposedly more effective than Advantix/advantage.  He told me that it should last between 3-6 months.  My dog had his first Bravecto tablet on 5 April 2016 so not really due again till 5 July 2016.  However this evening I found a flea on him how isn't possible that he has fleas when he should still be covered by the Bravecto for another two weeks at least.  It is ok for me to give him Bravecto earlier than 3 monthly?  Has this happened to anyone else's dog?
Thank you

If the instructions  say 3 monthly I wouldn't bring it forward. Try bathing and then combing him very thoroughly.u will also need to hoover everything in the house amd wash all bedding it could very well be some in the house or garden

Have you treated the house as the flea you found could have just jumped on, they need to have contact to die  (maybe even eat off him). Fleas do not live on the dog but jump on and off to eat so treating the house is very important as new fleas will hatch over time...

What I have heard of bravecto is that it lasts considerably longer than the 3 months in most dogs.

Have you treated the house as well?? Once a year I spray my whole house with Indorex, go out with the dogs and on return thoroughly air the rooms. Is your vacuum a bagless one? Don't forget to empty it once you've finished.

I don't envy you,we used flea treatment on our cats at the recommended intervals as a preventative.Never had a problem until they were just about due a dose,I'd been to a friend's house who views flea treatment as only to be used if you have fleas.Cat had fleas,I am the equivalent of a Michelin starred restaurant for the things....Took us a good month and a small fortune to get rid of them. Don't forget to vac the people beds and if you have a fabric laundry basket then that too,not much help but the powders you can get in the uk for carpets etc seem to be pretty good. Good luck!
