We are getting a new pup in about 5 weeks (a Flatcoated Retriever) and I had some queries. We have had a number of Flatties over the years and sadly lost one not long ago at only 5 years of age.

Our second dog is 11 and still extremely active. We normally visit The Lake District twice a year and live in Dorset where we are normally found discovering the coast path and New Forest.

We have always been strict with the "walking time rules" but I must be honest I find it hard! We have our "puppy carrying bag" and normally the pup comes with us on ling hikes in the bag. We train him up and both our dogs always seemed extremely happy in it and although they don't walk they still get to experience the walk with us. We are planning another trip up to The Lakes in October and the pup will be 5 months old. Clearly I could not carry him anymore at that age. I've been doing some research (after seeing someone with one) and there are some pretty sturdy off-road strollers around. They look like bike trailers but with 3 sturdy wheels.

Does anyone have experience with these? As we could take the little lad in the stroller for a long hike. To be honest I am looking at buying one designed for children as they are half the price and seem quite easy to convert to a dog stroller, they come with a break and suspension.

Also, we would ideally like to do one small fell. Normally those walks are approx 4-6 miles and taken slowly can take a few hours. Anyone ever taken a younger dog on a "longer" walk with lots of breaks?

I had a babyjogger performance, which has 20 inch bike style wheels. I used it as intended (to run, pushing kids) for about 8 years. It lasted through 3 children and in fact outlasted my knees and went on to another family for use.

My 3.5yo has autism, including sometimes involuntary refusal to walk, and we have a McLaren major elite pram for him (cross between a pram and a wheelchair, can be used from 3-7 years). I am currently pushing my 9wo standard poodle pup in it at times (vax not complete yet).

You get funny looks, is all I would say.

I've never used one but it sounds like a great idea. I always say to my family, when I move back to the UK I'm buying one of those things that attaches onto the back of your bike (is it called a caboose?) for my Cocker. You can get about much faster on wheels than on six legs

I'm currently researching as these dog strollers are expensive. The "human" ones are half the price, have suspension and breaks. The dog ones don't. I'm looking into buying one and converting it to take the seat out and give it a flat bottom.

Biggybee let us know how you get on. Hubby a keen cyclist and his looked into some of these dog strollers?

I bought a dog stroller for my toy breed when I lived in Spain purely so that I could take him to the markets with me without him getting trodden on getting over tired walking in the summer heat.  My boy loved it as he got lots of attention from passers by and he felt safe away from all the feet.  It worked well for me but I definitely would not recommend it for a heavier breed on uneven terrain.  It would not be at all easy to push.

I've selected one after a lot of research. It's a bike trailer/stroller and I found some online tips how to convert it. It comes. With large wheels, a break system and suspension. It also has a flap at the back so the dog can walk in with ease. I'm taking out the seat so that should create a lot of space.

I'm ordering it now so I'll keep people updated :)

This is it although I'm buying through Amazon:
