Does anyone have any guidance/tips for clipping week old puppies claws.  Can I use 'human' nail clippers or are there specific ones for puppies. Thanks.

I use human ones and try to pick a time when they are fast asleep, I can usually do most of the claws before they start waking up if I'm quick. Hate doing it I must admit haha, luckily they are usually white nails in the colour I breed, but as it's a toy breed they are still pretty small.

I use clippers like these. They are safe and easy to use:

I use human ones and just take the sharp hook off the claw, I also do them when they are sleeping if possible, when they are a few weeks then I get someone to hold them and it's much easier for me to just hold the paw and cut the nails

I'm a bit 'hot' when it comes to nails, be it newborn or not.   Some of our litters seemed to be born with longer nails than others, in which case, using human nail clippers, I'd nip the pointy bits off the end of their nails.   Having had a battle royal with our first, buy-in hound, resulting in my having to have my vet do his nails (once up on the table with me getting him in a hammer lock while the vet whipped round), made me get subsequent hounds used to having their's done so I didn't have a fight.   My current boy, who we didn't get until he was 4 months, is great - as soon as I get the clippers out, he heads for his pad and plonks down with his paws in the air for me to do nails.   Brilliant.

On the other hand, it's not so easy with my Whippet who hates me doing this and it's too bad as her nails grow FAST.   As a result her feet never look as I think they should and certainly not like my Bassets.

I use human nail clippers or scissors and just nip the pointy ends off once a week

Another lover of human nail clippers.  I never did get on with dog nail clippers.  I find that, for my Collies, the big toenail clippers that I use for my feet sometimes work.

Thank you everyone, I'll be clipping tomorrow using human clippers I think

I have three sizes of human ones for pups.

All done, much easier than I thought it was going to be

Hope clipping went well. I've been using human clippers since the wonderful JeanSW suggested it some years ago :) Small nail clippers for starters, then move onto the toenail clippers.
