Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Advice RE Kennel Club Affix Registration

Hi All, Long time follower, but first time poster!
I have a long and carefully planned litter due next week.
While I was super organised with all my health testing, stud choice, herpes vacs, whelping box and everything else, I have been somewhat less organised with my Kennel Club paperwork.
At the end of April, after much deliberating, I finally submitted a request for a kennel name. I chased this up a couple of times as I was getting a bit twitchy about the pups arriving before I'd got my KC prefix. They came back to me saying that my choice has been rejected as it is already in use. I'm quite surprised by this as it was available when looking at the KC name checker. I know that this is not foolproof, but I would have thought that if someone was using this name, it would have come up on the name checker. I have emailed them to ask if there is any way of appealing the decision, but not heard back and if it takes another 3 weeks for them to reply, the pups will be here.
Has anyone successfully appealed a name rejection?
I assume that I am going to have to think again, which is a shame as I have this as my website and email address already.

My next question is very similar to one posted recently.
I registered on MYKC some years ago, but cannot even remember which email address I used so I can't access it. I have re-registered but my dogs are not listed on there (I assume because they will be on the original MYKC registration). Is there anything I can do about this?

Many thanks in advance for any useful suggestions.

When mine was rejected I called them, forget email and post, they said while it wasn't in use it was too similar to another one already In use so got my second choice. It then goes into the kennel club gazette for others to then view and object if they wish, takes about 2 months.

I have to say that I did once object to a new affix that was only one letter different from mine, and it was disallowed. This happened at the stage when it was listed as having been provisionally granted, in the Kennel Gazette, (presumably that would be in the online Journal these days). Did you give an alternative kennel name? This choice may well go through smoothly, in which case you should still have time to register your puppies before they have to leave for their new homes.
I think I would phone Aylesbury and check that all is proceeding smoothly though.

I'm sorry for your problems with registering an affix.   I had this when, coming back from Canada where we had an affix registered with the CKC, it wasn't available in the UK because it had been granted to somebody else here, in another breed.    We had to choose a different name which I hated having to do after all the years we'd had our original one.    We did have a puppy name rejected because it happened to be the affix of a breeder and I hated the one they chose.   I'd not given an alternative for him.

Could you please give me a link to where you found existing kennel affixes - I'd like to check whether our original Canadian affix, is still active here in the UK.

When you go on here it is for the Tibetan Spaniel. You need to click "Restart" and enter your breed.

Thanks All, I'll give them a bell tomorrow. I didn't put a second choice, because it would mean having to create a new website, email address, business cards etc etc

Hum.   It seems my Canadian affix MAY be available.   Putting in the name of a couple of mine, bred in Canada under our CKC affix, it says neither the given names, nor the affix, is 'taken'.    Now I need to know an email address for the KC!!!    I don't want to phone and would prefer to contact them by email but the various areas listed under 'contact' don't seem to work (and the given subjects don't apply to what I need to know in any case).

HELP!!!

Ok, you have tried to get an affix(now called Kennel Name) which has been rejected. Like already posted you have to wait until it is advertised in the Kennel Journal for people to see & they have I think its 4 weeks from the publication to object. It is also advised to not start using your applied for affix until it has been granted.
You don't need to have an affix to register puppies, my first litter was without an affix. The time frame now is going to be too close to have any potential affix on this litter I would say.

Bit of a mistake to do that first. I got my THIRD choice of name. Quicker process if you have alternatives. At least before the KC used to accept pups being registered with a kennel name you had applied for which had passed the first checks but if any objections came in afterwards when it was published, you might have to change it.

I'm pretty sure Goldmali is correct on this one.

I thought the wait was three months from granting. I also got my 3rd choice, but then had to wait the allocated time before I even told anyone what I had. Just to minimise potential objections...

I don't know that if you are granted something now you'll be able to use it on the puppies. Because they would have flown the nest by the time the wait is up.

If the affix is in use already you won't be able to win an appeal as its allready in use. The kc name check is not completely accurate as its just a guide.
For example when I use it and put in my affix it says it does not conflict with any active kennel name nore does it if I put in my friends affix, or my girls breeders affix. So just because it doesn't flag it up doesn't mean it's not in active use.

Sadly it's a risk you take if you get everything set up under an affix before it's granted and passes the time for someone to put in an objection. Looks like you will have to get in the new list asap and then change everything you have done to the accepted affix.

Realy your ment to send in 5-6 possible choices. When I did mine I originally sent in just the one as at that time I couldn't think of anything else so figured rather than waiting to come up with more I'd apply for the one I wanted and think of more while I waited to hear back. It got rejected because it's apparently a registered company name and they told me to send in a new list of at least 5 and got my third choice which was the last on my list that I actualy put thought into unlike the 4th and 5th (can't even rember what they were)

So not too hard to solve at least, once you get a new one approved you can just set up another website ect for your breeding deepest to the training business and just have a link to it each other on them.

I've got 8 websites not dog related in pairs of two (dot com and dot uk)

I only maintain one website and if you type in any of them into the address bar they all take you to the same place. Very easy to set up.

Kenny.com takes you to Kenny.co.uk so does grumpy.com / .co.uk and miserable.com etc...

The above are examples I own none of those mentioned.
