if a dog acts up in ring does it get marked down
hector was bit of idiot at show on Sunday
after we did triangle judge asked for free stand hector sat then jumped up when judge brought her hand to her mouth
evryone else veterns showed beatfully but hector was idiot
my friend thinks dogs showed not get marked down but in horses they do get marked down if they misbaive

also why do judges bring their hands up to their mouth when looking over dogs
thank you

I've won best in show before at a European Specialty in Germany with a very naughty youngster, but he was a youngster so judges make allowances for that. Personally I like to see oldies still being naughty occasionally too but a judge has to be able to assess the dog properly, if he's not standing well for example he won't look his best. So, I'd say no they don't get marked down for a little bit of foolishness, but the rest of the time they must behave, move and stand so the judge can see their quality.

Bringing the hand to the mouth and making a noise is to see how alert the dog is and how reactive/mobile it's ears are. Some dogs expressions can change completely when alert.

More practice required then, it's possible the judge never got to see him at his best.

I have Silken Windhounds now, I own 4 of the 6 in Scotland though only 3 live with me, we can't yet show at KC shows, I have to show on the continent. I used to show borzois, which may look similar to my profile pic but are of course an awful lot bigger, was it borzois you seen?

That will be much handier for you won't it if it's the citadel. Shame to lose the Magnum though. I haven't shown at a KC show for at least 10 years so I'm really out of touch with current gossip :)
