Just a question that's cropped up between me and my friends. If you enter your dog in a ykc members stakes and gets placed 2nd or worse but then goes on to win best of breed is it still eligible to go in to the group (Champ show)

Unless the rules have changed in the last 10 years then no. I entered a bitch in veteran stakes and she got a 4th, but then she got the bitch ticket and BOB and couldn't go in the group, I was annoyed with myself but I hadn't expected her to do so well.

Yes your dog can still be exhibited in the group after being beaten in any stakes class. The unbeaten dog rule, has been suspended from January 2015 for a period of 2 years. This is exactly the reason for the rule change. It was to encourage entries in the stakes classes and assure BOB winners that they would not risk being disqualified from the group.

Yes Chaumsong, the rule has been changed, or rather, suspended for two years Jan 15 to Jan 17.

Ah thanks for that, it seems a good idea, hopefully it will increase stakes entries :)

Thanks for clarifying that. I was sure I'd read it somewhere that you could.

is this same as entering two bred classes ie post grad then open say dog got 1st in pg then 3rd in open then dog can not bob it really confusing me too??

No it relates to stakes and breed classes. If you enter two or more breed classes and win one but not the other you can't compete for BOB as you're a beaten dog. If you enter a breed class and then a stakes class and get BOB in the breed and then a lower placing or not placed in the stakes class then you can gp forward to the groups as you're unbeaten in the breed class.

So would you class a ykc members stakes class as a stakes class
- By Dawn-R Date 17.05.16 11:19 UTC
Yes definately.

When I was entering the KCJO (now called YKC) the classes didn't count...similar to the Junior Handling classes.....if the dog was beaten. Ok this was a fair few years ago now & I know some rules can change but it may or may not help????
