Anyone got any ideas on what I can do with my toy poodles sticky eye?
He has been to vet/eye specialist who has him on artificial tears and it seems we just have to live with it, just wondered if there were any old fashioned remedies that might help. He is only a year old and it does seem rather sad that he has to spend the rest of his life with a half wet face.

Hi, have you considered food allergy ?
My toy poodle gets one green sticky or clear runny eye when she's fed too much rubbish like toast, or given cheap and nasty chews.
In fact, I have just run out of eye wipes as she went on holiday for a week and was spoiled rotten with toast, rice pudding and more !!!
I'm suffering the consequences now !

He has some sort of inadequate tear duct, the optical specialist did try to flush it just wasn't effective.
So diet isn't going to help although he has a decent one (little rubbish). Could try to be very strict just don't think there is much more room...
I will try the tea bags though cant hurt.
So far he has always had fur on his face and hoping next groom to take it right of his face to see if this might make it more comfortable too.

Can they not operate on him at all?

What colour is your Poodle?

If the cause of the problem is that the tear ducts are too small, it's possible to have them dilated. I had this done on my youngster when he was 15 months old.  It was done under local anaesthetic, by a specialist ophthalmic vet (I can't remember how much it cost, but nothing outrageous) and since then (he's now 4) he has had no further problems with excess tears/staining/wet eyes.

If this is possible with your tiny chap, I would recommend it (I see that the specialist tried to flush - did they suggest dilation?)

Apricot officially but in reality very red!

They said it was too small. I am actually at the vets today so will check that was what I was told.

Yep straightforward epiphora so with too small for her (ophthalmologist vet) to want to dilate, we are to live with it.
She had hoped with the flushing it may have helped force an enlargement.
I will have to keep his face clear of hair so far as he has had quite furry face, but its not so sightly,  and probably not so comfortable for him either.

Ah well, it was worth asking.  Maybe there's a chance it'll improve as he matures.  Best wishes.
