Hi, I am a proud owner of a 3 mth old Rottweiller I named John Wayne. He is a very loving and wonderful son. He however has been diagnosed as having carpal laxity. He has a appointment in the a.m. with an orthopedic dr so I then have 2 different opinions for treatment. A vet I seen last week perscribed daily brisk walks no running for at least 30 mins. He thinks this will help strengthen the ligiments. I am just inquiring as to whether any of you have had any experiences with this problem. Thank you..
Hi J/Wayne, no experience of this, but going to ask if this is also called weak pasterns? Others on here have rotties so they may be able to advice you more, but 30mins daily seems a bit to long for a pup. See what the others say. Christine, Spain.
Just a guess, but with a baby like that, I'm wondering is free exercise in a gravel run where he has to tighten up his feet over the gravel would work through to the rest of the body. Don't think I'd worry too much aabout it at this baby stage, myself, but others may think differently.

Thank you all for your reply's. I took John Wayne to an Orthopedic Vet in Seattle, Wa today. He said to keep the daily walks up and we shall see how he progresses as he grows. His feelings are that John Wayne will grow out of this. I am so relieved and am willing to do whatever is called to do for his improvement. The Dr's do not want him running as the brisk walks will help strengthen more on non slippery surfaces where he does have to use the muscles. I do hope I have helped someone else who may have experienced this problem. Is so nice to know that walking will help and that surgery may not be needed. We again have to wait till he is at least full grown. I will keep you posted, as I love to brag about the baby..
