my westie who is 17 weeks has been fed on pedigree puppy for a long while and has been doing well on it so far.
his coat is lovely as is his temperment (apart from his daily mad half hour.)
he has been regulaly been wormed (2 weeks ago).
the problem started last night myself and my husband had an awful nights sleep as did toddy.
he sleeps in his crate in our bedroom.
he was so figgety we were up and down all night with him taking him outside he wanted to do a pooh but kept stopping and starting only doing small bits at a time.
he seamed to be straining slightly. his stools are not overly hard and there is no blood or mucus.
he has only done one pooh today.
i have trimmed his hair around his bum just incase that was affecting him.
he is quite tired today but i am putting it that down to the awfull nights sleep last night.
tonight i put in 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil in with his food. still no poohs though.
am i doing the right thing is there anything else i can do.
if he is the same tomorrow i will take him to the vet its just i worry so over him as he is still only a baby.
You could try adding more fibre to his diet. Weetabix is good if he'll eat it :)

You are doing the right thing by taking him to the vet, they will be able to tell you
what diet is best for him.
Every dog responds different to different foods.
Have you recently changed his food?

hi,
well to my relief i added another teaspoon to his brekfast this morning and he has been good and proper with no straining.
he is back to his self if perhaps a bit naughtier making up for lost time.
i still dont know how he became constipated as i have not changed his food.
thanks all for the advice and reassurance.
i dont know where i would be without you all
jo
