My rough collie is 15 months old, neutered, male. His coat looks really
rough!! We've taken him to the vet who suggested that
he might have an allergy - his coat seems to be quite sparce
in some places. Anyone experienced this, there are no other
signs except for a dry, dull thin coat. Thanks.

If he has only recently been done, then you may be experiencing a hormonal moult, and the coat should grow back. Coat volume and texture often change with neutering, it is one of the side effects.

Im interested to know why a 15 mth collie was neutered in the first place my neighbours dog was done because he had a tumour and he was like a patchwork quilt for a long time he never actually got a good coat again Im interested in the views of others on neutering if its not for medical reasons

Well this is a tricky one marie.I sat down over a cup of "coffee"to think about it.If the dog has a medical problem then yes it is right to have him done. But i think it is wrong to de-ball a healthy dog.I treat my dogs like i do my family i just hope my wife does not get any ideas.

hello billy .i think we met on this board before ? Im glad you agree about not neutering healty dogs Ithought there would be a big response to my question on that subject .It is a terriable operation i dont understand why someone buys a dog and then castrates him why dont they just get a bitch who comes already without.or better still buy fluffy toy mari

Hi
You could try giving him oil of evening primrose capsules, I have Rough Collies and I give them to my dogs to promote hair growth.
I would be interested to know if it works for your dog as well. What food is he on?
I am sorry to see you received so much criticism about him being neutered, not really much help with what is wrong with his coat eh?.
