My vet doesn't routinely stock Eurican herpes. (Had never heard of it!)

My dog has come in early, and surprised us.

She will be Day 4 on Monday & I'll call and get them to order it then. I'd prefer to give the first jab before mating if possible - how long will it take my vet to get in?

Would it be faster for me to request a prescription and place an order via an online pharmacy instead?

PS Just to add, those of you who give the vaccine, do you give it before or after mating? I know the manufacturer says either is ok, but just wondered....

I can see pros & cons: Given before, you don't need to take a newly pregnant dog into the vets & also avoid giving a vaccine in the early stages, when the pups are supposed to be susceptible to environmental toxins etc. (Have people given the first jab after & had no probs with puppies?)

Given after, if you don't get a mating, you can also not give the vaccine....

They had it for the next day when I called the morning before. I gave it pre mating on advice from repro vet, oj the misses it was post mating

My vet can also have it in for the next day.  I give it around 1 week after mating and 1 week before pups are due.

My vet got it in 48 hrs. Last time we had it done after the mating, got 12 live pups and one dead. Did a week after mating again this time.

I am totally crapping myself about all this and getting my freak on. 

I am just double-double checking... Our vet has now ordered the herpes jabs and our dog is booked in to have the first one this Saturday morning - that will be Day 9 of heat.  We are heading to the stud for hopefully a mating on Day 12 - at least, no mating is going to happen before that.

Is this ok?  3 days before mating?

I gave mine 10 days after last mating and pre-arranged for vet to give it in the back of the car

We may have to have it after mating too, if the progesterone results from today tell us to go sooner than expected...

You should also have it 1 week before pups are due.

Yup, got that The vet got in 2 doses for me this time.  Fingers crossed I actually need the 2nd one, as I'll be very sad if not!
