Hello,

I'm looking for some advice regarding importing a 3 month old puppy from Lövstastigen Sweden, what would be the most cost effective way.

Thank you

If flying probably cheapest to fly to Brussels and drive home as you'll be charged around an extra £500 on top of Air Cargo charges to fly pup into Heathrow.

Even with the cost of fuel and ferry, this ahs been most cost effective option for friends..

You need to cost out each option including Ferries and Driving.

A breeder friend of mine imported from Denmark (not quite as far as Sweden of course) and drove up there.   And I wouldn't mind betting they found the most economical way - and made a 'holiday' out of the trip at that.   Bringing the puppy back myself is something I'd prefer to do - and actually you do need to check re timing (although Pet Passport requirements which are relaxed these days compared to in the past).    I think I'd prefer to have the breeder keep the puppy back a bit longer, much as that's me, with my breed where 3 months could well be too young to be sure the puppy is going to be what it promises.   When in Canada, we imported on two occasions, from the UK and the first was 5 months, the second 7 months.   The first was our foundation bitch and the second a male I needed to enhance my programme.    I did buy both more for their bloodlines - if they were good enough to show later on, that was a plus (they were!).

What town? You've just mentioned a street name. It's an awkward country to import from if you drive as it's so far.

One way is to fly the pup into Paris and then drive back though the tunnel. A friend did this last year with her Swedish puppy.

Brussels is much closer if the routes match

When a friend imported from Scandinavia she looked into both Brussels and Paris, Brussels was much easier and quicker back to the chunnel than Paris. Breeder flew the dog down to Brussels and they picked him up from there and drove him back home. The import charges to Heathrow were high plus the airline add on a tax as well which isn't divulged by the reception centre, you need to call the relevant airline to find out what that is if you get it flown straight into the UK.

Is Dublin not an option ?

Or are they just as bad as us.

Add on ferry costs both ways it will be expensive and depends where you are in the country it could mean more driving as well.
