i now someone that lost mare after foaling she put it on local radio and got foaster mum for colt foal
so sorry to her i have been throw it with foal

Your vet, or other local vets, may know where a bitch has just whelped.    This may not work so I hope you are prepared to be bottling/tube feeding (which if you have 9 puppies to cater for, would be less time consuming - but you have to get it right) every 2 hours right round the clock.   I'm assuming you have sadly lost mum which is a terrible outcome.   Good luck.

ps    There are a couple of kennels in my main breed in the Derbyshire area - if you look on Bassets - breeders on CD.   Obviously I don't know if they have a lactating bitch right now or if they'd be willing/able to help.

This sad situation tends to crop up more with horses/ponies than with bitches, probaby because compared to coping with an orphan foal, hand-rearing puppies is 'slightly' easier.   Assuming it all goes well!
