Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 3 generation pedigree - who can get one?
- By rabid [gb] Date 04.04.16 21:02 UTC
I am (officially) abroad and coming to the UK to use a UK stud.  I need a 3 generation pedigree of the stud, to get the litter registered.

Can I ask for this from the KC, or does the stud owner have to get it?  I don't want to put her to any extra trouble so if I can request it myself from the KC, I would... Thanks!

It should be provided by the stud dog owner. I would imagine that it needs to be certified by the KC in order to be used to register the litter in your country.
When I used an overseas dog the UK KC insisted on a certified pedigree.

Sorry and they also requested a certified copy of the dogs registration certificate

I'd suggest the owner of the stud dog should be providing you with his pedigree - and before I used him, I'd want to see one to make sure what's in his background (and I'd prefer a 5-gen. pedigree at that).

For the rest of the paperwork that might be needed for you to be abe to register this litter outside the UK (?) I think you probably should get in touch with the UK KC?

And don't forget to make sure you get copies of all health test certificates (preferably before the mating takes place). It never ceases to amaze me how many people take-the-breeders-word-for-it and later find out that all was not as stated at the time.

Thanks folks, the UK stud owner is getting one.  Our KC is very relaxed/informal, and when I imported our female, I just sent them a colour photocopy of her 3 gen pedigree and they accepted that(!).  (I was worried they might lose the original, so figured I'd try a photocopy first!).

I have a 10 generation pedigree of the dog for my own use, of course, or I wouldn't be using him - I have him on my own software going back many generations.

The stud is a UK stud, so I have checked his health results on Mate Select.

As  a stud dog owner I've always provided a 5 generation pedigree at the time of mating.  And when taking my girls for mating I've always been given the same by the stud dog owner.

Just as a second thought.  When I approached an exhibitor about using his boy I was given a copy of his pedigree to take home and study.

It's got to be the 3 generation pedigree, with registration numbers and colours on, for our KC to be able to register the litter.  5 generation is no use.

When I sent semen to Finland the breeder needed an official 3 generation pedigree which I provided. I can't remember the cost but it wasn't expensive.
