I am having a puppy back from a mating of a bitch in Ireland who came over to use my boy. Does anyone know if it needs to be vaccinated against rabies before it comes into this country. Also the best way for travelling.

As the puppy is from a country outside of the UK, then Pet Travel scheme rules apply & yes a rabies vaccination is required & a Pet Passport. Fortunately the wormer for Echinococcus is not required as the worm is not found in Ireland.

The pup will have to wait to 3 months to be vaccinated for Rabies, and can travel three weeks later.

If the breeder is in Northern Ireland and litter whelped there then there is no restriction on travel as NI is part of UK however if in Southern Ireland under EU law the pup cannot travel without rabies and pet passport
