If you have had a fecal test done (your dog!) recently, can you remember what it cost.   I have just brought my account utd which included paying for the full fecal I had done on my lad and involved a check for Giardia, Coccidia and so on.   The bill for that came to £100.80 incl VAT.   That even sent the girl on reception out back to check with the vets!!   Turns out it was right.    Thankfully it all came back negative (which was good I think) but I thought that very high, as did the girl on reception.

I also had to pay £17.40 to have the microchip put into my Whippet (finally!) of which £2.90 was VAT - for something the Government now requires me to have done, by law?!!!    A dog sure is turning out to be a LUXURY.

I'd be interested to hear whether this was unduly high or the going rate these days??

Wormcount.

£21.00.  Worms & Lungworm (but not Giardia & Coccidia )

Our last test came back negative, but within ten days found tapeworm segments in faeces, imagine like any other faecal analysis result will depend on whether tapeworm (if present) is shedding.

I had microchips done in December and they were £7 each.

Can't comment on the worm counts but there are plenty of microchipping offers going around.  Councils often have free chipping events, and my local rescue is holding a chipping day tomorrow and over the weekend, for a minimum donation of £5.  I'm taking Willow in tomorrow.

A word of warning. Make sure whoever is doing the chipping that it is done correctly, not like an injection, the implanter should put the skin up & make like a pocket at the top of the withers & then with the gun or syringe insert the needle horizontally parallel with the dogs spine, when the needle is fully inserted pull the trigger/push in plunger & with the forefinger at the tip of the needle release the trigger & remove the needle keeping the finger in place. This prevents the chip moving/being pulled out of place. The dog should then be scanned.

Seen so many chips implanted incorrectly it's no wonder so many migrate, vets & vet nurses being the worse culprits

Thanks for the heads up re how to - implanting.   I THINK the vet who did this yesterday did it as advised.   He pulled up (with difficult as he said she was 'tense' - SHE was tense!!) as much skin as possible to make a pocket.   She didn't react and yes, the scan read the number afterwards.   She did seem quiet for the rest of the day but there's no site reaction (he warned me not to stroke here there for a while, to let the 'hole' heal, otherwise I could stroke the thing out!!!).    Re a freeby, remember we are down here on the N.Cornwall coast and even if I could find a free microchipping clinic, this might involve travelling a distance = petrol cost!

I went back into the vet this morning armed with the fecal test report that was done on my Basset but that was in 2010 by IDEXX Labs.   I asked for a copy of the Lab report for this time.  It was done  by 'The Innovation Centre, Uni of Exeter'.    And shows a parasite examination, neg., Protozoa exam , neg and here's where I get confused - something saying Muscle fibres - neg. , Starch, neg., Plant material ++, Giardia Antigen, neg., Faecal culture - normal faecal flora.   Then no Salmonella or Campylobacter.   So clearly they did do 'the lot'!!   Not much I can do about this bill - I was told Lab fees had 'gone up a lot' and it was just under 6 years since the last similar testing was done.  Poorer and hopefully wiser!!

I had a faecal test done at Langford about 10 years ago and remember that I thought it was expensive, but honestly can't remember cost now.

My vet charges me £7 for chipping as long as I pay with the first vaccination.  My pups are then chipped with my free 6 month check.
