Has anybody any experience dealing with either of these companies for dog insurance ?

I ask as they both do a cover where if you have a pre existing condition provided there have been no treatment or vet visits for the same condition for 24 mths they will include cover when you start a policy with them.

I saw the article on moneysavingexpert.com as most of us know if you change companies any pre existing conditions will not be covered. So you are tied to one insurance to continue cover for that ailment.

My boy had critical kidney failure due to infection nearly 2 years ago. He pulled through and was thought to have some kidney damage. He isn't on any meds or prescription diet, I home cook for him to control it. In fact the only time he's been to the vet since is for annual check ups. The 24 mths will be up in June of course if he was on prescription diet then he would have been receiving treatment I guess, but he hasn't had any illness relating to kidneys. I've just had renewal through from present company and nearly passed out. If I change to Lifetime pet cover it would be £38.00 per month saving:eek:

I'm sure theres a few of you out there who could also change and save

I am not in a position to comment on your particular issues with your dog but I used to insure with vetsmedicover until their premiums hit the roof. My boy was going to turn 7 and his monthly premium went from £38 to £82 and one of my girls went from £38 to £46. With 4 dogs and all GSDs (classed as high risk - regardless of whether a claim has been made or not), this wasn't something I was willing to pay. My boy too, had had 2 claims and neither were issues that were likely to occur again. Vetsmedicover have changed their claims adjuster (who originally worked for petplan) and are trying to emulate the biggest provider. The problem is that they don't have vet backing in the same way and have added benefits that you are unlikely to ever use to make the hikes seem acceptable.

It is of course, up to you who you insure with but I have found Vetsmedicover to hike up costs without good cause and stopped covering with them. x
