Hi does anyone on here know of or heard of a vets that do the above procedure ? Typically got a beautiful puppy at 6.5 weeks with no testis! Looking at google it sounds like you can see if the canal has closed with the testis still above hence they will never drop. Anyone ever don't this scan? Thanks in advance

Nope, but like you the one hadn't dropped.  I waited until he was an adult before having him castrated.  The vet found the hidden one in the inguinal canal.  It was half the size of his normal testicle.

I have to say that I wouldn't be making the vet rich by paying for a CT scan!  It's not as if anyone would want to castrate a dog of this age.  Book the operation when he is an adult.  No scan will be needed.

Have to say that the pup is far too young to leave home.

Hi jeansw. Thanks for your reply. I breed and show my dogs. Clearly the one or no testcles will put a stop to this little boys career. I'm not sure where you got the idea he was leaving us so soon. Our breed are with the mother until at least 8 weeks.
I'm wanting to make a decision about this boys future which is why I asked if anyone had scanned before.

Never heard of the  investigation but even for a  potential show dog I would have thought this was rather early to decide one way or another. Would put anything off as long as possible

I am wondering what the word "typically" refers to. 

It is difficult to communicate adequately on the internet.  So often, one didn't mean it the way it came over, and there is no tone of voice or body language to accompany what one "says" in writing.

It sounded like you had just got a puppy at 6.5 weeks.  It is genuinely how I read it, I didn't read it that you were a breeder.   I've read it again and it still sounds the same to me.   No offence was intended.

I agree with others that I wouldn't assume the pup only has one at this age.  As you know, they can hold one up when you try to check them. 

re reading I think it was a figure of speech . as in typical !!!! ( meaning it would be like this wouldn't it? i have bred a  lovely pup but with a fault)

Yes, I think that's all it meant - it was misleading though. :-) Anyway all sorted out now, and I agree don't despair at only 6.5 weeks!

My breed commonly has "disappearing testicles"  often present at birth but pop up into the body sometimes for weeks, a few never come down but most will, the vets make a big deal of castrating them because of the risk of cancer but my research has indicated that the risk is not very high and certainly there seems to be no benefit doing them before 18 months.  Interesting if there is a test to indicate the outcome but I would just wait unless you are selling to a show home and you quite rightly would want to give them a definite answer on the are they or aren't they question.  I have given my puppy owners a note on their contract that states that they understand the situation regarding the testicles and making sure they know it may involve extra expense at castration and no show or stud career.

If the puppy is only 6.5 weeks, it's WAY too soon to panic about a testicle(s?) that hasn't appeared yet.   Yes I like to see them by 10 weeks, but it's not unknown for a puppy going into the ring at 6 MONTHs, to retract a testicle!!   Embarrassing, but not unknown.

Hang onto your money - scanning for this, at this tender age is pointless.   I don't know whether this can even be done.    Having a breed who, even at the time I let mine go home (usually 10 weeks) I can only pick those showing 'potential' to run on and not sell,  I'd suggest you have a ways to go yet, before panicking about 'missing' testicles.
