Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Missing Critiques
- By Whatdog [gb] Date 17.03.16 13:58 UTC
Hi
Can anyone please tell me what the procedure is for following up on missing critiques.  I have been waiting for one since the middle of last year.  It hasn't appeared in either of the newspapers.
I have spoken to the Secretary of the Show Committee twice and he has contacted the Judge twice.  Each time he's been told that it's being done, etc, etc.
Is there anything I can do?  What is the etiquette?  Can I write to the judge and/or KC?  Or does the Show Secretary have to do it?
It's so frustrating when the critiques are not done.
Thanks in advance.

Judges are required to submit a critique but only 'required'.  Many don't, and in any case, there's not much to be done if this was a show in the middle of last year.   Many's a time when I didn't see a critique on my entries, but given the standard of some reports, wasn't especially worried, to be honest.   I knew, win or lose, I always took the best hound home with me!!

If you are bothered about this, put that judge in your little black book.    Be warned, you could end up with more in there, than not!

I understand what you mean MamaBas, but I have a particular reason for wanting to see this one - it was our first ever CC.  Of all the critiques to be missing, it just has to be this one!  If it was any other show result I wouldn't be too fussed (I already have a list of plenty that were never received) but as it's a special one I really wanted to know what the judge had put into writing.

Yes, write to the KC and they absolutely will follow it up. If the judge then does not submit, they may be fined.

This post explains the process. The email address to write to is breedshows@thekennelclub.org.uk.

Oooh, if this was a CC, and so a Champ.show, the judge SHOULD have submitted a critique.  Naughty judge!

For every show the judge should submit a critique, unless in very rare and exceptional circumstances. If they don't want to, they shouldn't be judging! (Pet bugbear, can you tell?!)

Thanks everyone.  I have contacted the KC.  I don't want to get the judge in trouble, as she was kind enough to award us the CC, but fair's fair - it's all part of the judging appointment.

At one ch show a judge failed to submit, chased the secretary, the KC and the judge. Judge said he would send me a copy if I gave hum my email and nothing and then the kc did chase him and he turned around and said he lost his notes from a house move. Saying yo me he's done it and to the kc lost notes, so no critique. He's judges since but not sure if he's submitted a critique for that ch show must look because if not even though he's a fair judge he needs to be dealt with and not allowed to judge again.

I think saying he shouldn't be allowed to judge again is a bit strong, specially if he's a fair judge! But definitely needs to be reprimanded. It's so annoying when they don't do critiques. Sadly all the ones I am missing are for open shows so although I've contacted the secretaries and the judges where possible, there's not much else I can do. Still regret the ones we didn't get from 2 years ago, a mother and daughter judged breed and AV, got four Firsts, and no critique. Then last December got 1st and RBOB with my 11 year old and was over the moon, but again no critique. :-(

In cases like this, I'm pretty sure he/she would be pulled up about this.   However, fact is you have the CC in your hot little hands, so clearly the judge felt your exhibit was worthy of taking this award.    I tended to want to know why the judge felt a dog put over mine was 'better' (much as I probably knew!!) rather than just see praise in any case.
