I am a trained implanter and have just looked at buying another batch and am amazed at how much the price has gone up.
Where is the best place to buy them?

I've bought Peddymark with who hubby did the LANTRA training course and we also bought some from MicroID at Manchester champ show.

£51.00 for 10 with Peddymark, (incl VAT, though not sure if postage is included)
£55.57 for 10 with Micro-ID (inc Vat and shipping)
May be an idea to see if there are any offers at Crufts...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microchip_implant_%28animal%29 Might help - there are other websites.
As for cost - my vet charges £17.50 to microchip and a local groomer charges £10 IF the dog is also bathed. So I'd imagine you'd recoup your outlay pretty quickly. Too bad the cost price has gone up but I'm not surprised given it's going to be Law in April. Typical!!

If you buy 100 from Peddymark then with the VAT added (and online reg only of course) it works out at roughly £345/£3.45 each which isn't bad.

Not when you add in the cost of the approved training course (required since last year) we paid £265.20 and of course a Scanner on top.
With chips working out at about £6 a throw and paperwork, at £10 a time it will take an awful long time to recoup that.
About 80 dogs/pups for other people.
We can get dogs chipped for £10 by the RSPCA, but I would not want to take our pups to either the vet (they have to be done before 8 weeks, so before we would vaccinate) or especially the dogs home, which is why we took the course.

I did the Peddymark course at their office last year. At the time I thought I could offer microchipping alongside training and behaviour. But in reality, most puppies are chipped by breeders now before sale - or by vets when vaccinated, before I meet them.
So I think I'm going to end up just chipping our own litters, so it was a pretty expensive way to go about getting our own pups chipped, but at least I don't have to get a vet involved...

Local pets at home vets charge only £10 for chipping too.
So I'd imagine you'd recoup your outlay pretty quickly.
I've only been charging £7.50 and I usually go to peoples homes, not making any money as I think of it as a service. Looking for a good deal as I don't really want to up my price too much
Smart chip are work out at about £42 for 10with free postage, owners can register their details online instantly and change details for free

I think these are Irish chips & can only be registered online with the company & not Petlog, to register them on Petlog will cost £16

Good Morning,
Our microchips come with free online registration to our very own database it is called SmartTrac. The numbers can be registered with Petlog but you will need our permission and they will charge you for it.

One of mine is with Smarttrac (Avid's database) and they wouldn't let me move it to Petlog?
With the new law anyone with KC registered pups will want to use Petlog so that it doesn't cost new owners twice.
KC are going to include Petlog Premium registration in the KC transfer fee for new owners.
I'd like to see them offer something to us existing breeders with several dogs on the database to do a group upgrade. As to upgrade top Petlog Premium for 5 of mien plus the one on Pettrac is quite a sum.

Why don't they have just one database, petlog makes sense and for all to move over.
> Why don't they have just one database,
AGREED! Mine is with Petlog, done by the previous vet I used. I have to get my other hound done ..................

Brainless, when I did my Peddymark training last year, Peddymark trainer told me they are looking at starting their own database(!!) - cos Petlog keep putting the cost up.
Doesn't make sense to me to INCREASE the number of different databases - I think we should be consolidating to one. But I didn't say anything!

It used to be the only database, but it wasn't allowed to be a monopoly, daft really.
