Hi I am new to this site. I was wondering if someone knew a recipe for a good supplement milk for puppies when nothing else is available. Even for emergency temporary times.

Thanks God Bless

Hi, if I have a litter due I always check I have some Welpi, and if I have one thats been open for more than a couple of months I give that to the bitch and get a new one for the pups, togther with a new plastic eye dropper. Best to have it in the house ready and waiting as you always seem to need it at 3 am or on a Sunday - sods law rules!!

Thanks for answering my post. I will definitly not let this happen again regarding not having anything on hand. I just got out of the hospital today and was unprepared. what would you do if you did not have the option of having commercial puppy formula on hand? I do not know what to do and my vet is oout of the country right now and I have been waiting for two hours for the substitute vet to reply!

Thanks Again

I have just supplemented my litter with evaporated milk, goats milk, glucose and a small amount of salt,

The most important thing in an emergency situation is to keep the puppies hydrated, hence the glucose and salt.

In a total emergency I would resort to just glucose, salt and water..

Some people use evaporated milk in an emergency, in fact some use it in preferance to whelpi etc. Much easier to get hold of at very short notice.

Hi
I've use evap milk..carnation milk...4 parts milk to 1 part water...because the fat content is so high it also means that the pups go longer than 2 hours before they need feeding again..usually 3 hours but no more than 4 hours...
