A match is where 2 dogs compete against each other & the judge will pick one to go onto the next round.
So say there are 20 adults in round one the next round will become 10, round 3 will be 5 (this will either be 2, 2 and 1(called a bye) or 2 & 3) ending up with the last round to get best adult in match.
There is normally a puppy section & an adult section which is the KC recommendation but some clubs have a 'puppy walk' which is pre 6 months old & a veteran section.
The best puppy & best adult go against each other to get Best in Match...

Just to cloud the issue slightly, that is indeed the correct way to run a match. But my old ringcraft used to have a 'match night' once a month where it was really just run like a mini show, you'd have baby puppy, puppy, post grad, open, and then the class winners would compete for BIM. So basically it might be a proper match or it might just be a fun competition night.

Ahh so is it not match ??
am still bit of newbie well been showin for 6yr the world of dog showing is bit confusing at times

I was thinking the same Lexy. Seems odd to pair the groups together like they have too.

Possibly more like a limit type show? But in a knockout format? Mind boggles!

I would have suggested this 'match' is more an informal show, with all the usual classes etc.   A 'fun' evening   - be warned, I've been to village fete shows where some competitors get VERY SERIOUS!!    And I've judged a Child Handling Class where the parents round the ring were equally as competitive - I was lucky to get out alive

Yep, sounds much closer to how my club used to do their 'match' night, more like just a fun show.

Ment to ask will i need show ring clip and show lead?? Or will his everyday slip lead do only thing is its pink
- By suejaw Date 28.02.16 19:12 UTC
Treat it like a show and use show kit. Any ringcraft you should be using that for training anyway so the dog associates walking leads apart from show kit
