A few weeks ago my 2 year old spaniel started holding her head to the side so i took her to the vet who thought it was an inner ear infection and put her on antibiotics and metacam, she had a bit of a temperature too.Other than those symptoms she was lively eating and drinking well too. After the course finished there was no difference infact her eye was now drooping on the side she was holding her head to so vet put her on ear drops and apoquel tablets.her ears do have a funny smell but are totally clean but the head tilt is so severe that sometimes when she is excited she holds it so far over she falls over.vet not willing to do anything else until course of drops is finished.Im very worried as to what it could be but the strange thing is she is perfectly normal in every other way.Does anyone know what this could be?
Hello Kenzi
I really think this needs further investigation. The fact that the head tilt is accompanied by a drooping eye and balance problems has alarm bells ringing for me. Get a second opinion if your vet does not suggest this.

When my lab was 5 he had an inner ear infection (head tilt, loss of balance etc). He had an MRI to confirm it and was treated with steriods, a high dose first and then gradually reduced. It took about 8 weeks for him to fully recover.

Wondering if your vet has ruled out vestibular disease?

When we were at the vets the 2nd time there was a 13 year old dog there with vestibular disease but we just thought only older dogs got that,i must admit it looked similar but her dog didnt have a droopy eye.
