My Sheltie puppy is 7 months now. At night and sometimes in daytime she wees on her bed....goes there specially to wee on the nice soft vetbed..Never when I am there by the way. The bed is huge and has a memory foam pad covered in almost waterproof material ...leather lookalike. Vet bed on top. I have now put pads under the vetbed to stop the mattress getting wet.
The beds are in the conservatory. The other dog sleeps on a table top in the bed bought for the puppy. When both beds were on floor he chose it and the puppy chose the big bed..
The floor is tiled and in the night she was using the puppy pads near the door. She does go outside if I take her on the grass and tell her to go. However she does not seem to be dry at night yet, so it is reasonable to expect her to use the pads by the door. However I am mystified as to why she wees on her bed, not dribbles but proper wees.
Do you think I just need to be patient....it does not bother me ...just odd.

I think the problem is the puppy pads and I would abandon them and go back to basics with the toilet training. Puppy pads teach a dog the exact opposite of what you want to achieve - they teach them it is ok to toilet indoors whereas you need to be teaching your dog that the only place to toilet is outdoors. I would guess that your pup is treating the vet bed as a very large puppy pad.

You need to take your pup out at regular intervals - after waking, eating, playing etc and you might need to set your alarm for the middle of the night so you can take the pup out then too. Put her on a lead when you take her out specifically to toilet so she doesn't think she is going out for a sniff around or a play. Praise her efforts and reward her - treats, a game, praise - whatever you normally use to reward her.

At night I would take her out and reward her going and then quietly return indoors and put her back to bed. You can gradually move the night time garden visit later and later and eventually she will manage to go all night without needing to go out. You need to set her up to succeed rather than hope she might or by continuing to "allow" her to fail ( by not giving her the opportunity to go out during the night )

Good post from Harley.  I would definitely be going back to basics and treating like an 8 week old puppy.  That way you are responsible for the weeing.  A good point is setting the alarm so you get up during the night, just as you would for a puppy.  So that you don't set her up to fail.  And remember to give the over the top praise that a pup would get.

I too have a 7 mnth old bed weeing pup . I'm mystified why she does it. She is clean in the house unless I put a bed down, then she wees in it within hours even if she has been outside and had a wee very recently.

I had this with one pup who got it into her head that the crate (door open) was a litter tray.

I took it away for a week and then put it back and the habit was broken.

I can only assume as the crate was a replacement for the puppy pen, which of course they would have used for peeing in then younger.

Also pups often have gotten into the habit of peeing on soft surfaces when small, like the vetbed, blanket, puppy pads or paper, so think that is the surface to pee on.

That is what I assume. Have removed beds for weeks and still when putting one down she will wee it. Just bought some HiK9 beds in hope it's different and she might not wee them.
She wees on them too :-(

I have removed vet bed and just given her a towel on the wooden bed. Only one wee and not returning sneakily in the day to wee on it.
However the coir doormat ...ancient... is now targeted.LOL

I had a puppy years ago that done this. I was certain she was more or less house-trained and then she reverted back to doing it indoors.  She took her 1st season shortly afterwards.   So, perhaps your girl is about to come into season?
