I am very confused by my bitch this time although she has had a litter before.
Last Sunday week, I contacted the stud owner when I found a small amount of watery red discharge. Then Ifelt a bit silly because I could not see anything. if I had not been looking there was no way I would of seen anything.
I would say about 2-3 days later, it was obviously her season with a relatively heavy bloody discharge. If I go by the first spot she would now be 16 days. The 2nd 14 days approx.
She is not showing any signs of turning her tail or making up to the other girls but I am not sure how much influence my boy had that we lost at Christmas. Perhaps the girls on their own would not play that game?
Anyone had a similar experience, She is still bleeding now and it is a breed which is know to have late matings, compared to the book anyway.

I know lots of breeders who will progesterone test.  I always used my stud dog to tell me when a bitch was ready.  I'm thinking that a test is your best bet, particularly if it's important to get her pregnant this time.

Never found this to be reliable unless in the actual presence of an entire male.

Mine never turn their tails for each other, though they do hump, but often far earlier and later than they would stand for a dog.

If the bitch can stay with the dog then I would not bother progesterone testing and mate her alternate days over a 3 - 5 day period.

I have never done testing but by all means do, if you feel you need to.   Personally, provided the owner of the stud dog can accommodate her, I'd get her there sooner rather than later, and let them take over!

I also have never tested except, tell a lie, once years ago when I went dashing up to Yorkshire from Somerset when she was 9 days in - a fools errand.
We are going over tomorrow so will let you know what happens.
Thank you for all your advice.

I progesterone test when planning to breed my girls even if traveling 45 mins down the road - IME behaviour and physiological status bears little correlation
Test every time, go on optimum day. Less stress all round, no wasted time and you can establish due date to with in 24hrs.
