I can only imagine that it was utter chaos and an accident in very heated circumstances.

There are many working roles dogs and their human handlers where both dog and handlers lives are at high risk, there is no information on how many, if any, loose their lives whilst in some kind of mountain rescue attempt (Im thinking more of alpine regions than here), we do not know how many SAR dogs were hit and killed or hit and maimed by falling rubble in the 9-11 ruins....the event you describe illustrates the dangers many working dogs face on a daily basis all around the world.

Your post makes me think of the role of guide dogs, or at least the very few guide dogs i see.
I have never seen one showing the brightness in its eyes or general demeanor, when i do see them i often wonder about their regular daily exercise off lead in some park or other, their ears are usually held low and they just generally lack even a flicker of brightness in their eyes, their lives consist of little more than repetitive sits and much more I simply do not know about.....one thing is for sure, there are very few guid dogs to % of blind people, so why do we need them at all? maybe yet another highly paid charity executives salery, naaa, that can't be it surely:surprised:

I think you will find that although there are lots of different categories - ie hearing dogs, assistance dogs, canine partners for independence, etc they all have to be registered with the parent organisation to be covered by the legislation that allows entry into places like shops, restaurants and the like.

things like therapy support dogs aren't classed the same as assistance dogs so not entitled to the same rights in law as guide dogs, hearing dogs and other assistance dogs trained by certain organisations who are allowed access by law. So I asume care dogs (are they the same as emotional support dogs?) Would be under the managements desecration I'm afraid.
