I posted before because at 53 days my dog went to the vets as had discharge they done a thorough check and scan all pups healthy and strong but she had more discharge than expected and her cervix was dialating, the vet said that she might go early or it might stop.well as you can tell it stopped,it is now 11 pm day 65 and she is fine healthy and pups are moving well, she is resting loads, did go off her food for a day but has now started eating again but little and often.my problem is that the pups haven't engaged yet I had the owners of her mum round today and they said the same pups moving, panting but not heavy and going into her whelping box but like they said she isn't hard in the tummy and isn't engaged.i know the date she mated as it only happened once, this is her first litter.i was just wondering if anyone has experienced this as I know the sperm can stay in them for at most 10 days before conception so I don't want to force a c section if they are just not ready yet,but tonight they seem to have moved down a bit as the kicking is coming from her groin area where as before was always on her sides.hopefuly she will have them before the weekend but just would like advice x
Don't panic.... Especially if you don't know her ovulation date. I see you only had one mating but not knowing her ovulation dates makes it trickier to pinpoint exact due date. I have had one of my bitches go 67 days and all was perfectly fine.

You could always have a progesterone test done (think they call it a reverse progesterone test). If the levels are low enough then labour should be starting and if it doesn't start then you know puppies are viable if you go for c section.
Thank you if she hasn't had them by Saturday day 68 then I will phone the vets pups are still moving well just feel for her bless her heart she seems so fed up with it.Her day 70 is on Monday and I know she can't go past this.I don't know when she ovulated but her season started then 9 days later they mated and that was on the 1st December hopefully they just need a little more time in her tummy I know my first child I went over 2 weeks

this is where breed can be very important and knowing the bitch liens. What was her mother like, which day did she stand for mattings and whelp.
I have never gone past 4 days over first mating, but new that the mating must have been early based on thr result of pregnancy diagnosis showing pups were not as far on as mating day would suggest.
Normally I would not want to go past two days past 63 days from first mating, in my medium size breed.
In some breeds Primary Inertia is a problem, and in some toy breeds it would be rare for a bitch to go as long as 36 days, both these scenarios waiting this long could mean dead pups and endangered bitch.
To be honest I'd be having kittens if one of mine had not whelped by now.You need breed specific advice, and preferably see a vet that is experienced with breeding, most are not.

her mum went over by 4 days on the litter with her that was her first litter.I know that larger breeds can go over where as smaller and toy breeds can be early.thank you I think her pups are moving down so going to take her temperature and see if she starts tonight if not will ring vets.
I've rang the vets and they seem to be happy with her she they said she's just a bit late as they don't catch straight away but it all seems to be going to plan.If there is still no pups or anything by Monday I have to phone them again then they will see her but just have to wait fo her and the pups to be ready. The vets have definitely put my mind at rest and as the pups are moving down fingers crossed it will be within the next few days
My toy breed went to 63 days so from what I had read slightly later then other toy breeds however she did have 6 but I'm sure you can imagine how anxious I was and paranoid that she may need a c-section or something was wrong especially when the scan only showed 3 puppies! I have a friend who told me about their friend who owns and breeds from a large breed dog and his dog every time gives birth between days 68-70 never before. I'm no expert at all though, id go with your gut instinct, people can only advise on here however you are the only one who knows your dog. I would suggest that If she does go to day 68 as you say with no puppies getting a vet opinion however if you get a bad feeling or if her behavior changes before then id get her seen to just to make sure.
Thank you I've been in touch with the vets and they don't want to see her until Monday if she hasn't had the pups by then, they are still moving around and although she is fed up she is well I'm hoping she will have them soon as all the signs are there now other than the heavy panting.my first call is for her safety I wouldn't want to put her in any danger as I think a early c section would do to her and the pups, when she had her first scan she was ment to be quite far in the pregnacy but the pups were too small to see proper heartbeats so I'm taking this as a sign they are not yet ready and just behind,as her last scan at 53 days showed them all health fully formed and heartbeats strong. If anything changes the first thing I will do is call the vets as she is my family and I won't rink her health over anything xxx
She went in labour at 2am this morn day 69 and by 9.40 pm had all 6 puppy's they are all beautiful and she is such a good mummy she just needs to get some sleep as do I

Well done both of you. Best wishes
