Beware of buying a Dogmatic Halti two of the rings on mine went rusty and I cannot do without it walking in the evening and they try everything other than send you out a replacement so I can send it back.

Aren't The Dogmatic head collar & Halti head collar 2 different things ??
- By Cava14Una Date 02.02.16 22:14 UTC
Yes they are:neutral:

"Halti" has become a generic term like "Hoover".  I guess it should have said "head collar".
- By peppe [gb] Date 03.02.16 11:54 UTC
As far as I know they only make one type in either webbing or leather but the same design some call them headcollars because they are like the ones used on horses/ponies. they are very good but obviously using cheap rings now as never used to have this problem .
- By Tommee Date 03.02.16 15:39 UTC
Then it is a Dogmatic headcollar & NOT a Halti then
- By peppe [gb] Date 04.02.16 11:18 UTC
Yes. Still surprised with their attitude towards replacing it.
- By furriefriends Date 04.02.16 12:55 UTC
halti and dogmatics are both head collars just different makes but the word halti like hoover has become common parlance for any make of headcollar ( or vacuum cleaner)
will they not replace if you return it ? I know that gives you a temporary problem but might be worth doing it and using something like a gencon in the meanwhile or as I do a martingale fleece headcollar £10 ebay ,

sorry that's already been said but still don't understand why the name matters I am sure we understand what the op means
- By Tommee Date 04.02.16 14:50 UTC
There is a world of difference in design between the two head collars, the dogmatic is based on a horse head collar & cannot ride up in use, Haltis  frequently ride up on to the eyes in use.
- By furriefriends Date 04.02.16 15:16 UTC
Yes I agree haltis have never fitted any of my dogs and I have tried loads. I just couldn't see why it mattered woth regard to the op original comment
- By gaby [gb] Date 04.02.16 18:01 UTC
My Dogmatic was a leather one, as such it was cleaned and conditioned regular as leather should be. The stuff would go on the rings too so no rusting in years of use. Things just need looking after.

It would matter if Halti read your post and felt you were being derogatory about their customer service lol

gaby in relation to your comments these are webbing ones and are cleaned regular and as I had two previous ones which never rusted and they have always been treated the same I think it speaks for it self.

Below is the abstract to the results of a study by......

L. I. Haug,  B. V. Beavera and M. T. Longneckerb Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery,
College of Veterinary Medicine, College Station, TX

Abstract
Head collars are widely used in canine behavior modification programs. Owner compliance is crucial for success and depends in part on the dog’s acceptance of the product. The responses of 12 dogs to four different head collars were compared in a crossover design over four 10 min sessions each spaced 2 weeks apart.  All dogs were naïve to head collars and were free of overt behavioral abnormalities. Dogs wore the collars only during testing sessions.
Observed behaviours were divided into two groups.

L.O. Haug Study
The responses of 12 dogs to four different head collars were compared in a crossover design over four 10 min sessions each spaced 2 weeks apart.  All dogs were naïve to head collars and were free of overt behavioral abnormalities.

Group 1 included pawing, pawing nose, biting/pawing leash, opening mouth, rubbing face, and shaking head.

Group 2 included rearing up, balking, rushing forward, and rolling on ground.
No statistical difference was observed between dogs’ reactions to the head collar types; although, there was a trend toward increased reactions to the Snoot Loop and Response® collar during the first session.

Totally the wrong approach to introducing a dog to accepting a head collar of ANY design !!!

Seems quite common then that folks use 'wrong approach', according to users...

I have used "Halti's" for probably 12 years as and when needed, I have no complaints about the product or rings going rusty.

I fit and use the Halti loosely on the dog, the neck strap automatically slips down the back of the neck but the dogs feel comfortable wearing them. There is always a certain ammount of resistance when first introduced, the same as some puppies when introducing a collar and lead they do not like this product that is restricting their movement.
A properly fitted Halti should not be fitted tightly and never so tight that it cuts beneath the eyes or across the bridge of the nose! (maybe a wrong size for these dogs) If fitted correctly it should be loose and comfortable gently  resting across the nose and not tight beneath the eyes!
The head has to turn inwards towards the person leading if the dog walks forward or trys to pull therefore the power of pulling can not take place!

Completely agree. Although only used them for six months.
- By Nikita [gb] Date 07.02.16 11:16 UTC
Peppe has already stated that she's using a Dogmatic.
- By RozzieRetriever Date 07.02.16 13:16 UTC
Can't comment on those.

I have been told about a Swag halti anyone use one.

Dogmatic's customer service is useless sent my faulty headcollar back as asked but trying to get a decision from them what they are going to do is a nighmare. Phoned up and they say they will ring you back but don't beware of them.
