I know that you should worm the bitch when the pups are first wormed at 2 weeks, but do you also worm the bitch when you worm the pups again - at 5wks, say??

Do you worm mum every time you worm pups, or is it just at the 2 weeks worming that you do this?

Thx

Edited to add:  Extra question - Is there a reason for mum to be wormed using the same wormer as the pups?  Or can mum be wormed using a different wormer?

I'd like to worm pups with Drontal Suspension as it only needs one dose instead of 3 days of Panacur, and also works out cheaper - but mum tolerates Panacur slightly better than Drontal + (which does give her stomach ache and the squits for a day) so I'd prefer to worm her using Panacur (which just causes stomach ache and no squits!

Is this ok?

Anyone?

I worm Mum through pregnancy to three days post whelping and then when the pups have their worming before leaving at 7 weeks.  Then everybody gets done when pups are 12weeks/3 months

Thanks, so you don't worm at 2wks or 5wks - just up to 3 days and then again before they leave at 7wks?

Yep, I work on the basis that they will have had a through worming and will also be getting residual wormer from cleaning up after the pups, and with the amount they are eating they tend to be a bit on the loose side and I don't want their tums upset any more.

My bitches will continue to clean up their pups waste until they are playing outside (so often over 4 weeks).

If youre worming the pups i'd worm the bitch, otherwise they can cross infect each other.

Ok, so every time I worm pups, I also worm mum?  Presumably it's ok if this is with a different brand of wormer though?
