Puppies are now 5 days old, they were early and only due today. All 7 are doing well but noticed today that poos are a bit runny. All have put weight on, are lively and eating like there is no tomorrow. Mum has been great (first litter). She feeds and cleans them continually. Today she has been digging which means she is uncomfortable. Her motions are soft but not runny. She has always been a foodie and is eating well. Has put weight on since the puppies were born. Should I be worried about the puppies poo ( sorry to be so graphic)?

I'm a bit surprised that you are seeing any poo at all.  My bitches clean up pups so that I see nothing at all for weeks.  Being early means not a lot to me.  My bitches whelp on day 56 and pups are totally viable.  You say that she cleans them continually so you shouldn't be seeing poo.  Digging may well mean pain at this early stage.  As the uterus contracts she will feel uncomfortable.  I think I would hang fire for a couple of days.  Was your bitch Panacur'ed during pregnancy?

Also as the milk will be in with a vengeance they can be a bit loose if they are being greedy, and like with us if the bitches digestion is a bit upset the pups can be too.

Thanks for the replies, just realised it is not from puppies but natural stuff from mum. You would think I had never done this before......

If this is her, if she got into a lot of the placenta, her stools may well be looser than your'd like and mine were often that way in any case, given we had quite a few C.Sections (anaesthetic).    If the stools are really bad and if she is uncomfortable, you might have to consider some retained birthing material in there?
