I have always had dysons and have loved them but my two I have at the moment really are not doing the job  after about 18months. I have had them all apart and cleaned everything but still one is terrible the other okish. I think what ever has been said about changing standards is really affecting them.  For my question. I want and upright , bagless . I am thinking of buying a cordless to sort of top up what the dysons arnt doing or indeed take over . Hairy ness is extreme, having got a big long haired double coated gsd a flat coat and a long haired pomx long haird chi and two cats , as is my ocd about keeping things clean and tidy  . I hoover every day sometimes twice

I think you may well find that a cordless vac may not be up to the job of cleaning after very hairy dogs, especially when they moult (I have a golden retriever and know all about moulting)
We have a Dyson cordless which I use at the static. We don't have mains electrics at the static, having solar panel, battery's and an inverter to obtain 240v, but not enough to run a mains vacuum. I found the Dyson cordless good, but not that good on the carpet. Goldie hair seems to weave its way in and I needed to go round with a rubber headed brush to bring the hair out of the carpet then Hoover it up. So, having had enough last year, got the carpet taken out and now have a good quality vinyl down. Not so warm underfoot, but it saved my sanity.

I've had Dysons for years and recently got a Dyson animal which I find really good. I did consider changing and the Meile is often recommended.

that's what I was wondering about cordless.However at the moment my dysons arnt even picking up crumbs !  My gsd hair particularly his undercoat seems to just stick in lumps to the carpet and then if it comes up it winds round the roller bar which I haven never had before

Sounds like blockage somewhere. Have you washed the filters if they are of that type?

Have you cleared out the tube bits, it's amazing how lumps of dog hair will get stuck in them. From your description, it seems there is not enough suck which I would assume is a blockage.
Another thought. Is the roller spinning when it's switched on?

Good point about the roller. We use ours so often that the brush had worn down but as it was still under warranty they replaced the brush at no cost.

roller spinning cant find any blockage and have cleared all the fur off the roller
. perhaps there is secret pipe that I havant found that blocked. Definitely lack of suck !

Gave up on Dyson as didn't think they lasted or the build quality as good as it once was, changed to Vax just as good & most come with a long warranty (10 yrs on present one) & have found they've been excellent in replacing should something go wrong.

Have you checked the flexible tubing to see whether there are any splits in it?

I'm begining to run out of ideas

Mines went like that just after Christmas and had it to bits but it just wasn't getting the hairs up. Ended up buying a Shark to try and I'm loving it, much lighter, easier to clean stairs and nooks and crannies with and deals with the hairy Flatties no bother. Only downside so far is that the dust collector isn't that big and needs emptying after each room but it's not too much of a hassle.

It is a Shark NV340UKR 3  in 1 Lift away. It even survived pup chewing the plug!!

Have you unwound the hair on the brushes, as you have longer coated dogs.

Never have that problem with mine as their coats aren't (though I fill a Dyson just doing kitchen and living room) long enough to wind, but while my daughter was staying had to keep doing it with her long hair wound round, she moults with the amount of hairspray, dyes her hair etc.

Ha. My long haired daughters the same, but it's usually down the showers plug hole. A few days after she leaves, the shower tray stops draining and hubby has to scrabble about hauling long dark hair out of the plug hole, that's how we know it's her not us oldies (with grey hair) or a blonde goldie

brainless yes I am always cutting the fur away from the brushes and clearing them The odd thing is until these two dysons I never had the problem its as if they have changed something

i have the shark lift away...love it and all parts are guaranteed for replacement not repair as standard!
